TOPIC: Scottish Football 2011-2012 Season

SPL clubs that have openly stated their opposition to a Newco being given immediate access to the SPL have taken the position based on their, and at times, their supporters' view of what is the right thing to do, however, the vote has still to be taken and proposals such as these are premature. If the SPL clubs vote as indicated on the basis of the increasingly discredited notion of sporting integrity, it would be questionable if the SFL clubs did otherwise.

I think Clyde are on to something with the timing, and are right to call the proposals premature. My guess is the people responsible felt the need to gauge SFL opinion ahead of the SPL vote, and if it's too unfavourable they hope to reverse club positions in the SPL.

Jim Spence 'thinks' Huntly and the like have more to offer the Scottish game than Rangers in any form or shape.

The bawbag is hardly a fair-minded commentator. Oh and Dundee FC's fans should not be punished for the incompetence/malfeasance of that clubs board but Spence is not quite so generously disposed to other clubs even when potentially criminal activities went on (and totally outwith the fans power to control).

But that's Mr. Consistency Spence at work.

I think I spotted somewhere that Rangers out of the SPHell would, at a minimum, have a negative impact of around £16 million in lost income for the rest of the clubs, over (if recall correctly) three years. Perhaps even within a shorter time-frame.

I do hope Aberdeen don't go under if Scottish football is in for an even harder time financially over the next few years.

Aberdeen FC the masters of 'sporting integrity' that fiddled their way out of relegation twice in their recent history. I mean they could have, for reasons of sporting integrity, insisted upon their own relegation on both occasions...

If any of the diddy clubs do find themselves in trouble in the next couple of years it would take a heart of stone not to laugh. How's that 115% wages/income ratio going down the Tynecastle way?

Just asking.

I'd settle for the same due process that overseen Livingston going down to D3. Not punishment, but process.

I don't think anybody would argue with that.

I like the bit about threat or inducement in the Clyde statement, they fucking nailed it and deserve to have people stand behind them.

Ah...this old chestnut again. Proof positive that if you repeat a lie often enough then it becomes "fact" in the minds of the ill-informed.
When the SPL was due to expand to 12 teams at the end of the 1999–2000 season, Aberdeen, would have competed in a three-way play-off against the teams that finished 2nd and 3rd in the First Division (Dunfermline & Falkirk), with two of the three gaining SPL status for the next season. With Brockville still below SPL criteria, and Falkirks application to ground-share Murrayfield rejected, the play-offs were abandoned, Dunfermline & Aberdeen were put into the SPL with Div. 1 champions St Mirren.
Is that the "fiddle" you mean?
The 2nd occasion only exists in the minds of ignorant Rangers fans - not anywhere in the realms of actual fact.

Consider yourself educated - so there's no excuse for making a mistake again.

That Clyde statement is magnificent - underscores just how much football would be better governed if clubs were run accountably by people with brains and intelligence, rather than simply money.

What was (is) the "Lowland League" some people seem to be proposing to mirror the established "Highland League" in a pyramid feeding into the 3rd division?

Agreed. They're my nearest senior club these days, I really must get along next season.

A merger of the East of Scotland and South of Scotland leagues, probably.

Think that would be the case with the possibility of entry for teams from the East/West Junior leagues. As I've said before there is limited interest in a pyramid or league entry within the junior game but it may be that if the time and conditions were right teams like Auchinleck, Pollok, Irvine Meadow, Bo'ness and Linlithgow may feel it worth the extra effort.

There's no detail as yet though so I'd regard it as one of those inducements that the Clyde statement mentions. No real thought appears to have gone into this.

I'm expecting some form of crash and burn denouement in the Hearts saga EE, can't see any other way out of it. When it happens I'll take it on the chin, you laugh away. We'll get on with rebuilding from the bottom up.

Some good news for the Jambo's, season ticket sales up 8000 on this time last year.

I'll predict that it's not all bad news without Rangers.

Rob, defo up for a meet next season but ice station Broadwood isn't exactly great for a session, we'll sort something nearer the time.

More good news for Scottish football:

UEFA ranking? 26th now...mmmm, nice.

Highest ranked club side? Celtic at 76th.

But hey, priorities...killing the Rangers matters more than fixing what is so desperately broken eh?

Oh and now those powerhouses Stenhousemuir and Alloa have an objection to the 4th of July meeting even taking place.

OK Rangers are in a mess much of their own making but the wider scene in Scottish football is not looking too wonderful and the authorities 'running' of the game is beyond a farce (the clowns couldn't run a bath).

Now it's officially a monumental shambles. It will probably be even worse after the 4th of July meeting if it actually goes ahead. Alloa et al., after all have more important matters to attend to!

I also am hearing whispers that due to the ever deteriorating financial environment of Scottish football that the banks are becoming rather less relaxed in their attitude towards a number of SPL clubs. Specifically one Dundee based side has been told to pay up (for them) a small fortune to their bank by August or else!

The delicious irony being that Stenhousemuir are one of five clubs that Rangers attempted to drive out of Scottish Football in 1964.

What goes around comes around eh?

We may not be powerhouses but we are sustainable, well run, community based clubs. Both us and Stennie are fantastic models for what Scottish football should be aspiring to in our approach to being involved in the community and in providing facilities for the local area.

I've no idea what our objection to the meeting taking place is, or indeed if we actually have objected. The last communication from the club was a request for the fans to submit their opinions on the Newco saga, in order to help them formulate their position in advance of the SFL meeting.

I don't think there is an objection as such (yet), it's more the legitimate observation that SFL clubs are being asked to debate The Rangers admission to the SFL, before their application to join the SPL is officially turned down.

Seems fair enough to me.
