Fraserburgh's third sub on Saturday was wearing 67. I assume that there's a reason for this.

Is he from Zonguldak?

Dempsey wearing 2 for Spurs.

I mean, I ask you, there's just no excuse.

His nickname is Deuce.

I realise that this makes it worse.

How could football do this to me? At a time like this? Just when I was managing to plot a path forward as well.

Wouldn't 40 be better then?

Celtic had a 49, 67 and 88 playing against Benfica last night.

Yes, though I'm heartily in favour of 67 and 88 given the significance for the club.

I'm not too keen on a random 49 but it's nothing compared to a forward wearing 2.

Dempsey played like he had no idea where he was playing. Number can't have helped.

Hooper was born in 1988 so it might be that.

I always thought Wanyama was trying a bit too hard to ingratiate himself with the fans when he picked 67 as his number. Fine player though, better than what we've been used to lately.

I thought Hooper's number referred to the club's formation/first game in 1888, as denoted on their badge?

Edit: ah, hang on. You were just giving his birth date as another option.

Arouna Kone at Wigan is number 2 as well.

I think I might be more offended by Andy Carroll being 8 at West Ham though. Who does he think he is? John Aldridge?

Yes, I bemoaned Kone upthread. I have a suspicion that may be down to the same kind of religious reasons that Kallon used to wear 3 at Inter.

Before the season started, when we had a threadbareish squad, the league told the club to change some player numbers to lower figures from 20's, 30's and 40's. Fair play to them.

The squad numbers of Liverpool's 18 today add up to 485.

Arsenal's 18 added up to 575

Manchester City had a number 62 starting on Wednesday in the Capital One Cup. Abdul Razak. He wasn't very good. They brought on a number 61 (Jeremy Helan), and had a number 70 (SEVENTY) on the bench. I have no words.

People are getting confused here, it's not necessarily high squad numbers that are the problem, it's wrong ones.
posted 27-09-2012 14:26
I think 62, 61 and 70 are very wrong!

However 2 for Kone and Dempsey is criminal. Samba Diakite and Geoff Cameron are also number 2's for their respective clubs.

Cameron has started games for Stoke at right-back, so no problems here.

I wonder if all these players will get a game
