Millnomoor ~

Very troubling news. Firstly, Don Valley is about five miles from Rotherham. The club will probably try to put a spin on it, but it's not in Rotherham. It's in Sheffield.

Secondly, it's a 25,000 capacity athletics stadium. 4,000 or so Millers are going to be rattling around in there like peas in a can, and creating anything approaching an atmosphere is going to be nigh on impossible (it's difficult enough at Brighton with, say, 6,000 people in an 8,800 capacity stadium).

Thirdly, as E10 says, there's the issue of revenue. Paying rent and probably keeping a nice, fat zero from the other match day revenues such as food means that they're going to be, unless they've got a deal that is different to any other club that has had to rent somewhere that I've ever come across, earning anything like a profit from home matches will be out the window.

I sincerely hope that it is only a short-term solution. It's definitely nothing like a satisfactory long-term answer so far as I can see, and while getting the avaricious Booths out of their hair may seem appealing, the complications could prove to be just as troublesome as any problems they've had over the last three or four years or so. Something about it hints at desperation.
