You need glasses, event manager! ~

Very interesting discussion just on Five Live where (shock, horror) Graham Poll made some interesting points, one of which was that he believed primary match officials in the Premiership were no longer referees but were instead event managers. From the evidence I've seen I think he's absolutely right.

He explained that this belief influenced him when, for example, Wayne Rooney told him to F off 27 times in 45 minutes and he didn't send him off, even though he believed he should have. He related that he got one of his best assessment scores ever for that game and was showered with notes of praise and thanks from various relevant administrators, etc.
