15 June ~ The summer transfer season is upon us. Although most clubs are living under a mountain of debt, they have been spreading their dubious wealth in the last few weeks. As Cris Freddi discovered back in 1999, buying players is an imprecise art. In WSC 146 he looked back at the worst transfers of the 20th century. In light of Fernando Torres' £50 million move to Chelsea, Charlton Athletic’s decision to spend £324,000 on Allan Simonsen doesn't look like such bad business
