Why is it assumed that Cantona could have been picked up by any English club and been a success? He underachieved at every French club he played for and even though Howard Wilkinson gets stick for selling him, he seemed to have lost complete interest in playing for Leeds United at that point. And let's remember that Cantona wasn't ruthlssly hunted down by Ferguson showing vision beyond all his peers, he was the last throw of the dice after his preferred choice of David Hirst didn't happen.
