7 December 2009 ~ England's 2010 World Cup opponents Algeria became the first African side to beat a European team in a World Cup with a shock victory over West Germany in their opening game at Spain 82. Indeed, they may well have been the first country from their continent to qualify for the second round were it not for the controversial Shame of Gijón game between Austria and West Germany.
