Sunderland against Aston Villa in the League Cup

27 October 2009 ~ Tonight Sunderland host Aston Villa in the League Cup fourth round. Sixteen years ago yesterday the teams met at the same point of the competition. Villa went on to win the cup in 1994 but their 4-1 victory at Roker Park was one of those games of football that people are still talking about. Sunderland fans agree that Mark Bosnich produced one of the best goalkeeping performances ever seen, while in looking forward to tonight's tie one Villa fan predicted: "We'll get battered yet somehow win 4-1." During the game the visiting supporters chanted "We've only had four shots" and after the match Villa manager Ron Atkinson stated: "There was only one team in it and they lost." Ed Upright
