If less than half OTF gets it, then I'll be astonished. I think TeBe's original was probably slightly more phonetic but by restricting himself to Germans I think SR's is a greater achievement. More pure, you might say.

How many weeks work? Are you sending it to Danny Baker and the original composers?

What, someone's already done it? Ah bollocks, a whole afternoon wasted.

(Cos otherwise it would have been time productively spent, obviously...)

If the original song was slightly more well-known, and I thought he'd know the tune, I'd definitely send it to Danny. Instead, I'll just imagine him singing it, in my head.

(And if you happen to run into the original composers, by all means pass it on...)

Sorry, SR, yours is an original for Motorcycle Emptiness, I just assumed you'd been partly inspired by TeBe's Adam Ant song a few years back.

Oh right, no, I'd forgotten about that. Mine was more inspired by the "Bohemian Rhapsody" on the Baker & Kelly show a few years ago. Also, credit to whoever came up with the original "Mertesacker Emptiness" pun on here ages ago (was it Taylor?). I just picked it up and ran with it.

I'm not a fan of MSP, but I know that song and I'd imagine Baker would.

Fantastic effort, especially if it only took an afternoon.

If I'm gonna be honest, it took three separate runs at it on three different days, plus about an hour researching the surnames of every player in every German squad in every tournament since 1960 beforehand. Today I finally cracked it, largely through crowbarring in a few very dubious rhymes because if I didn't finish it soon, I was gonna go insane.

Sadly the three German guys I've just shown it to have never heard of the Manics.

Thanks for the link matej.

It works really well, when you read and the tune is actually playing. Great work.

Hahahaha, that's great. And quite a labour of love, I'd imagine.

For an encore, you should go back to the source and rewrite "Sweet Child O'Mine" using the names of players from the US national side, and the whole of "Society Of The Spectacle" with the names of French players.
