Quarter-finals:

Fulham v Wolfsburg
Hamburg v Standard Liege
Valencia v Atletico Madrid
Benfica v Liverpool

First legs to be played on April 1, second legs on April 8.

Semi-finals:

Hamburg/Standard Liege v Fulham/Wolfsburg
Valencia/Atletico Madrid v Benfica/Liverpool

First legs to be played on April 22, second legs on April 29

Great draw for Fulham, Valencia must be the favourites for the whole thing.

Where is the final being played?

The final is in Germany, I can't remember exactly where, but it's on a Wednesday night and I don't work on Wednesdays, so I can go if Benfica make it.

Great draw for Benfica, I'm as confident as I can be about the Liverpool tie, bit worried about the Valencia semi-final if everything runs as you'd expect it to.

On previous form, I ain't predicting anything but I doubt that you'll hear anybody grumbling about this tie in Lisbon. Nobody needs any more convincing that this Benfica side is something special.

My last post still makes little sense, even after editing it two times.

It's safe to say that I'm quite excited by the draw and Benfica's prospects.

Really ? I think Inter should win that one. I reckon the all French tie is the closest to call and I think Man United will beat Bayern Munich easily.

Barca, Inter, Man United and Lyon for me.

I have Bayern down as winners this years. They impressed on me in the late group stages and I get a feeling their form is an upward one.

That's being exceedingly charitable, Bruno. If I didn't know that Uli Hoeneß is a man of integrity matched only by UEFA's panel of referees, I'd have thought that Bayern had paid the refs.

Anyway, zieh' den Bayern die Lederhosen aus. Ich würde nie zum FC Bayern geh'n. Bin i Radi, bin i König. et cetera.

The only chance Bayern have is that they'll have a big mismatch between their left-winger and Man U's right back. Otherwise they'll get battered.

Message to ManU:
Take Robbery out of the game, watch out for Lahm's runs and you're there. Bayern's central defence is highly suspicious, and they lack an international class striker (at least with the shape that Klose, Gomez and the rest are in).

Pleeease don't mess that up. It's alright if you lose later against Bordeaux.

I think Bayern could get through - they did, after all, beat Juventus 4-1. Name one English team that could do that. Just one!

Re: Arsenal v. Barcelona. There's a part of me that says these will be wonderful, wide-open games in which Arsenal will give as good as they get - none of that Chelsea smash-and-grab which seems to give Arsenal such trouble, they're in with a chance!

Then I picture Lionel Messi running at Sol Campbell and wonder if Arsenal can keep the defeat to single digits.

Barca vs Arsenal will be like an U-12 match, with all those little midfielders scurrying around.

Bignutz, you had me thinking for three seconds there, you bastard... Very good.

It's too bad Bordeaux and Lyon drew each other, foreign matchups at this level are much more entertaining. And it's also too bad Inter got the easier foe, though they are unlikely to get through the semis.

OL lucked out a bit in Madrid, Bordeaux is the better team on paper. CL experience is not that important here as the Girondins play Lyon at least twice every year.

Bayern-MU is a classic big red UEFA matchup, ARS-Barca should be another cracker. By and large this year's CL looks like a nice appetizer before the WC.

if you travel with your team you can book 2 (or even 3) travels at one time. i mean if you are optimistic concerning your team's chances to go through.

Alternatively, if you're away in the second leg, by the time you get home to book the next trip, the best deals have been snapped up by people who haven't gone to the latest trip.

I've been saying since Liverpool lost out to Fiorentina that this year's Europa League final would be Hamburg v Liverpool in Hamburg, with Beatles memorabilia abounding and Kevin Keegan in the studio, and that draw has just confirmed it.

Watch out for the suspect UEFA refereeing decisions needed between now and May to give them the ultimate final to launch their new flagship event.

And if Chelsea fans are right and the Champinos League is similarly fixed, Barcelona surely won't be allowed to win a Champions League in the Bernabeu. If Arsenal aren't given enough of a nudge to beat them in the next round, it'll be Man U - Inter in the final.

This will be Thierry Henry's first time back at Arsenal. He's going to the only ground in England where he might still receive a pleasant welcome.
Despite his handball being against Ireland, he would have been slaughtered against any other side, which probably wouldn't be the case if he'd done it against England and had gone to play a game in Dublin.
I'd like to think that it's because English fan's still like to uphold the values of honesty and fair play, and nothing to do with him being a dirty garlic-crunching surrender-monkey.
I'd like to think that...
I actually think Arsenal have a real good chance of getting past Barca. Playing at home first, they could easily go to the Nou Camp with a 2-0 lead from the first leg.

In any case, the English media is excelling once more at analyzing the draw. From the always-reliable David Pleat in the Guardian:

of course, Bayern do not have a jewel like Wayne Rooney

In the meantime, the article's headline reads "United should beware Ribéry." Ah, to be at the mercy of more knowledgeable subeditors...

What original insight can Pleat offer?

A big challenge will be how Arsenal's centre-backs handle the wanderings of Lionel Messi

Well-spotted. Let's hope someone tells Arsene about that promising newcomer.

Anything else, David?

Thierry Henry is not as quick now as he once was

Good to know!

Bayern warm up for the Mancs by leading 1-0 in the 87th minute and somehow contriving to lose 2-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt. Can't imagine Clive Tyldesley will be able to make much with that material.
