Club statement says he's been "relieved of managerial duties".

And put on gardening ones, presumably.

Where else are they going to find a manager with a face in club colours?

He may not be popular for personality and suntan orientated reasons but he is a good coach.

Those are precisely the two things I like about him. Well, find hilarious about him. Which amounts to much the same thing.

His garden's going to look fucking fantastic after eighteen months, if he doesn't rise to the club's bait and resign.

They'll be like the Hanging Gardens of Hull.

When I saw Steve Parkin was going to be caretaker Brian Horton's assistant I thought (as I always do) that he was the guy that got sacked by a club for (allegedly) defecating in to a paper cup on the floor from the top of a wardrobe.

Who was that or have I (immensely worryingly) imagined it?

That was Steve Harrison. And I don't think he got sacked, he just got thrown out of IKEA.

All joking aside, isn't he technically Hull's most successful manager in their history? What state are the club's finances in, indidentally?

Any coaching ability Brown had was hugely overshadowed by his own ego.
Having said that, although he was a complete twat, he was an entertaining twat. I'm sure most of us were sniggering away whilst peering through our fingers at him leading the Hull fans in an end of season sing-along with his tie tossed over his shoulder, in celebration of the fact that they had been very slightly less shit than the car crash that was Newcastle last season.
Lets be honest, there isn't nearly as much fun to be had at the expense Brian Laws, who is as dreary and uninteresting as he is crap.
I imagine Brown won't be waiting long for another job. Probably not at Premiership level, but he's proved what he can do in the Championship.

I posted on another thread about the rumours doing the rounds on Friday, i didn't think he'd go after Saturday night's efforts.

I know he's not been officially sacked, but i don't see a way back. Our chairman's a ruthless cunt.

On one hand, Phil Brown will be remembered for taking a club destined for Championship relegation, keeping them up and them gloriously taking them into the top flight on that wonderful Wembley day. Keeping them in the Prem was no mean feat either.

On the other hand, he'll be remembered for getting carried away with the media portrayals at the start of last season, 6 wins in 51 games and of course being party to a raft of spending advocated by the previous chairman which has led to a slightly precarious financial position. It could be this, and the fact it will get a whole lot worse with relegation, that has maybe forced the chairman's hand.

Personally, though, i can't thank the man enough. For those who witnessed the near-death of our club a mere 9 years ago, and all the other shitty times in the 10 years previous, he gave us something we could only have ever dreamed of.

So long, Phil. And big, big thanks.

I don't think one gains primacy over the other, they work in parallel rather don't they ?

I'm just waiting for that old chestnut about things starting to go wrong for him after that on pitch dressing down he gave his players against Man City last season.

It seems to be an universally accepted truism that this was 'a bad thing'. There is absolutely no evidence to support this one way or the other.

Most true, it was only lazy, ignorant media wankers who saw it as a turning point. The same lazy, ignorant media wankers who hung onto Brown's every word at the start of last season.

The slide down the table last season manifested itself in the games leading upto the Eastlands debacle, none more so that the 4-1 home defeat to Sunn'land the week before. He lost his balls a bit that day, and though he occasionally found them again, ultimately it wasn't enough.

what about when you get to the point where your players don't listen anymore because they think you're a cunt (like davo) or move to get you kicked out (mourinho) or where you just go completely mad (like brown himself)

On the face of it this strikes me as a foolhardy decision. He's done a top job there.
