Lovely play by Matta as he pulled it back from the byline to set up Villa's second just before half-time, though the latter had far too much space.

A terrific half, probably due to Valencia's inability/unwillingness to attempt to sit on their lead once they went two up. I lost count of the opportunities for both sides, and if it had still been 2-1 at the break would not have written Bremen off. To score three without further concession is surely beyond them though.

How are Juve supposed to win games in Europe when refs give decisions against them?

Sissoko went in late on that guy and he didn't even fall down. What kind of a league is this??

2-3, Frings gets Bremen's second from the spot. Fairly soft looking pen.

I hate Ray Hudson. He's still going on about the penalty.

3-3! Valencia unprepared for a crafty free-kick and tricky little Marin gets a goal he deserves.

When Roy Hodgson was Inter manager, his opponents today were winning titles and the Champions League, all the while their star players having extremely suspicious tree trunk-like thighs.

I suspect he'll quite enjoy this if they hold out and beat them.

Villa gets his hat-trick with a thumping finish, prompting tiresome chuntering about the Big Clubs After Him ("not just in the Premier League") from an undistinguished commentary team. If there's one good reason to ban foreign players from England it's to stop all that.

Ooh, if Dempsey had just directed that to the far corner.

Completely unmarked header.
