Thanks for the background info on the NHL salary caps, AdC. It seems like there is a lot more parity in NHL salary spending, with the majority being at or near the limit, as opposed to in MLB, the NFL or in European football. It's probably a combination of owners conspiring to keep payrolls low and their trying to keep the more vulnerable southern expansion teams afloat.

Habs win 2-1 after a very hairy last two or three minutes. Well played to them.

Halak is on another planet right now; the Pens will have a challenge.

Two Canadian teams in the last eight, and all four original six teams that made the playoffs are still around. So far, so good.

Actually NBC did. Yesterday they asked the NHL to change the Hawks/Canucks game from Friday to Saturday. They'd originally scheduled the Caps game for that day.

I saw the result coming when the caps lost game 5.

It's very disappointing. This is the last playoffs where I'll be living here.

Maybe I should convert to being a Pens fan.

I'm moving to State College, Pennsylvania. Postal code 16801. In the exact center of the state. It's about 200 miles north of Washington, 200 miles WNW from Philadelphia, and about 140 miles due east of Pittsburgh. It's the biggest and most prosperous place in the middle of a bunch of very rural counties.

Traditionally, most people native to there support the Pittsburgh teams, although the student population is a bit more weighted toward Philly teams. No way I'd ever support the Flyers.

Growing up, I loved hockey, but I didn't feel loyal to any team except the Oilers because I liked Gretzky and they were sometimes on tv. Since I've lived near DC, I've supported the Caps. When I was in Boston, I followed the Bruins. It's just cheaper that way.

1/33 on the power play in the series. Coaching has to be questioned, I imagine. Halak was so good, but that's not a good enough excuse.

Yeah, that stat is appalling. Looks like you'll be hanging at The Creamery pretty soon... Did you get your PSU season tix yet?

Good luck with the move!

Thanks. The Creamery is great, especially since they moved it into a new facility.

PSU season football tickets can't be easily acquired, but I can usually find a ticket to any game I want to attend.

My dad gave up his season tickets when I moved to Massachusetts in 2006. He wasn't using them anymore and I couldn't get back often enough. Had I known I'd move back so soon, I would have prevented that. It's one of the biggest regrets of my life.

Football can be pricey. Face value tickets are $70 and scalp prices for big games can go much higher, so I'll probably be judicious.

But there are plenty of fun cheap sporting events to see there, however - PSU hockey, volleyball, lacrosse, baseball, soccer, etc. All good fun. And we've got a short season minor league baseball team. The most expensive seat is $11 at the gate. Cheaper if you buy a package.

San Jose scores three in 90 seconds in the first period of the first game against Detroit. The Wings haven't got going at all. I had this as Wings in six.

And Dan Cleary makes it 3-1. Game on again

We haven't had second round predictions. Bit unfair with one game down but...

Canucks over Hawks in seven

Sharks over Wings in six

Pittsburgh over Habs in five

Boston over Philly in seven

Careful, Amor. You won the first game last year as well, and that didn't turn out so well.

That said, if Luongo keeps this up, the Canucks have every reason to believe.

Oh I'm well aware of that, and I think we are all expecting a major push back from Chicago tomorrow. The lack of someone consistent in net — not the case last year — will be their eventual downfall however. In any case ruffling a few hawk feathers feels good right now.

Goals from all four lines last night. With all the attention paid to Louie, the 'Nucks goalscoring depth is something that's frequently overlooked. It's tough for any coach to defend against that.
