I saw Jonathan Richman at the Amersham Arms on Friday night, and came away with a beaming smile. Was really looking forward to seeing him for the first time and was not disappointed. It's just him and drummer Tommy Larkins playing, and though there were some technical issues (i.e no power) to begin with, he took it in his stride, played one song before taking 5 minutes so they could sort it out. It was a 90-100 minute set featuring an array of songs from his career, "Egyptian Reggae", "No One Was Like Vermeer", "Let Her Go Into The Darkness", "That Summer Feeling", and he took requests with "I Was Dancing In A Lesbian Bar" getting a massive cheer (particularly when he showed his moves). His humour throughout entertained, I just hope he returns sooner rather than later.

Next up is Einstürzende Neubauten on Saturday.

Went to see the Manics and BSP at Leeds Academy last night. Excellent gig from both bands. The Manics played a lot of older stuff which was great. Although i've loved a lot of their stuff for years its the first time i've managed to see them live. JDB's a great guitarist and singer, as Nicky said last night he combines 'Hetfield and Hammet'. Did a great acoustic set. Brilliant night. Sure I saw SR at the bar as well. Might be wrong though.

The only downside was the merchandise prices. Tenner for a mug?
