I'm impressed you made it in GY.

I have to dig out our cars today, which will probaby take a few hours.

I don't know of much in Old Town Alexandria, but as Reed says, it's a decent place to shopping and eating.

This weekend DC was hilarious. I saved a fortune on parking staying downtown as - according to DC folk - six inches of snow is a "snow emergency" and you can dump your car where you like.

Was in for a day or so but with friend commitments, so didn't throw it out there. Went to a great cocktail bar around 14th / U area. Can't remember its name, bar it being a nightmare to get into that took us hours of drinking before we got a call.

dglh - The Gibson?

I hooked up with my wife during a snowstorm in DC in 2003. I have many fond memories of being marooned in the Topaz for 96 hours while the city dug out of a snowstorm that wouldn't have done more than delay traffic slightly in Montreal.

It's not called "hooking up" when you're already married.

That would be the one, AG. Never take the offer of seats upstairs (we thankfully reversed on that suggestion)

Anybody got a suggestion for Thursday? I'm going to be in the Foggy Bottom area, so that last place we met (that I can never remember the name of) would be okay. Or anyplace really.

That area would suit me too. Can't recall the name of the bar either. I go out drinking in DC so rarely that I'm clueless as to good watering holes. We need a savvy Beltway insider like Reed to point us in the right direction.

Oh, and there used to be a good second hand record shop in Alexandria, but I don't know if it's still there. Last time I was there was in the morning, and like all good second hand record shops, there was absolutely no sign of life at the announced opening hour of 11am.

I haven't been out in that area in about 10 years so I have no idea. I'm flexible, however.

That sounds familiar - shall we say from 8pm on Thursday? Can't get there sooner because I'm coaching till 6.30.

8pm is fine for me. I'll probably get there early and get something to eat.

My class ends at 6pm, so I'd probably be there before 7.

I think I'd recognize imp and Reed, but I've got no idea what GY looks like.

The only thing I'm wearing today that is distinctive are my shoes (blue adidas sambas).

A friend of mine may come along tonight, as he likes that bar (and soccer).

Short, ginger hair, glasses. I'll probably be carrying a red and black bag with American Securitization Forum written on it and, if I get there first, reading a book about bacteria.

That should stop anyone other than OTF folk from striking up conversation, for sure.
