It's becoming clear to me now that "teabagging" in America is a very different activity to here in Blighty. Very different indeed.

It's a very different activity in real America. Cosmo elites like me know perfectly well what Euro-style teabagging is.

So does it have anything to do with those metrovincial-style manbags?

edit - I know it's probably been said earlier on this thread and Google is my friend and so on, but why "-bag" anyway? The rest of the allusion to treachery I understand.

Here's a link to a link linked on the original link about bogus teabaggers which gives an interesting take on the Tea Party mindset.

The term of art for this sort of thing, coined by Richard Nixon's campaign strategists, is "rat fucking."

I agree that the best course of action would be to talk this up and then not actually try to infiltrate. Let the circular firing squad commence!

Digby has a rundown of the latest survey data of Tea Party types[/url]. No real surprises in there, but some interesting statistics nonetheless, as the survey covered a lot of ground. The most telling thing, really, is how much the teabaggers are motivated by hatred of spending taxes on poor people (which is of course not unrelated to their feelings about race).

And yes, that is an actual tinfoil hat.

Those can't be actual Tea Party people...they have to be there making fun of them...right?

I like the way the guy on the right is complaining that he got money from the government.

And his sign involves some kind of 'GOALS' wordplay.

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!

Some good stuff from Wonkette:

Wonkette: You know how long these people have waited for a chance to say GO BACK TO AFRICA to black people in America? And now it’s just an “anger at government statement,” ha ha, nothing more to it than that!

My goodness, the signs, masks, buttons, and bumper stickers just get weirder and weirder as they build their anti-Obama mythology layer by layer.

Rick Perlstein has a good piece on the teabaggers in the New York Times.

So the article I linked above described our Crash the Tea Party guy as "an Oregon technology consultant" but apparently he's (also?) a public school teacher. Oh man. That drastically changes the complexion of the enterprise, a bit. Not surprisingly, he's coming under considerable fire. I don't guess I'd want my kid's schoolteacher turning up on youtube dressed like a Nazi either.

Ah, sorry, yes: he teaches media technology to middle schoolers. That doesn't exactly say "consultant" to me, so they were clearly being careless in the first article.
