When you first meet a character called Mario he says: "Don't you recognise me? It's-a me, Mario!" which made me giggle.

I laughed so hard when that happened. The whole game has a lot of bizarrely jarring moments like that, particularly the anti-Catholic stuff in the background text. I'm kind of surprised they released it with that in there. Great game though. So much better than the first one.

Romagna Holiday is a great mission, driving a nutso horse-drawn carriage whilst keeping bandits off Leonardo Da Vinci.

I expect that's the reason for the odd "This game was produced by people of all religions & races" message on start-up.

I loved all that historical background stuff. For a game which mostly consists of stabbing people in the face, I did learn a lot about renaissance architecture. I'd really love to visit Florence now.

Since completing that over Christmas, I've been caning Left 4 Dead 2, and the dreaded WoW.

I didn't notice that. I suppose it would explain it.

Left 4 Dead 2 is so good. If you play it on the PC, using Steam, Mitch, let me know.

I've got it, but having been sucked back into Company of Heroes, I haven't given it much time. I've only played two of the campaigns, and none of the new mode. I might be up for some this weekend.

Not a huge FPS fan but have really got into MW2, such a step up over the first one which was in itself very good.

Working through Campaign but have got distracted by Multiplayer which is so well designed with multiple power ups all over the place giving you that one more game and I'll unlock something new feel. Mainly Free For All, don't understand many of the other modes.

IS there a thread with peoples' PSN names listed ?

Oh, a mention to the excellent Gran Turismo on PSP too. It's a remarkable achievement to fit a game of that size and quality on a handheld.

Does anyone happen to have an Xbox hard drive transfer kit? I'm thinking about getting myself a new 360, partly for the HDMI, partly for the bigger hard drive, but mainly because the DVD drive is on the blink (it's years out of warranty). But it seems that unless you buy one of MS's extortionately priced hard drives on a standalone basis, the transfer kits are very hard to come by. So if I could borrow one off some Londoner that would be very handy indeed.

You remind me that I must order one myself, once it comes and I have used it, I can send it to you if you still need it. As far as I know it's just a cable.

They're free to anyone who 'upgrades' to a new 360 with a larger hard drive. As I did, recently.

I know, but apparently they're very, very slow at sending them out. According to the internet, you can be waiting up to six months, and a minimum of one month.

I've got one, transfered from 20gb to 120gb HD a while back. You can borrow it if I can find it...

On a tangent, anyone been playing Darksiders or Bayonetta? Got sent both of these last week, both fantastic. DS the most cliched game ever, but a joy to play. So many obvious references and blatent ripoffs (last night, I got an exact copy of the Portal gun, complete with orange and blue portals) but really well paced.

That would be awesome, thanks. I've played the Bayonetta demo, and while it was pleasingly silly, I'm just not a fan of that style of game (outside of God of War). Haven't looked at Darksiders, but it's had a pretty good critical reception, derivativeness aside.

Darksiders is remarkably pleasing. Playing as War is indeed fun. The game starts during the Apocalypse - what more could you ask for?

Details? Ok. The game is essentially a mix of Zelda: Ocarina Of Time and Devil May Cry as directed by James Cameron. It's as violent as God Of War (so it's surprising it only got a 16 rating here) and it feels really nice to play. It's a hugely rewarding and er... huge game. 10 hours in and I still haven't gotten Epona. I mean Ruin.

GY - PM me your email, will have a look for it over the weekend.

Ruin appears about 2/3 of the way through? You must be on the verge if you're 10 hours in. Doesn't have a particularly big part to play though, mind. Finished it now, avbout 19 hours if play (with a couple of hours faffing about).

As for God Of War.. never played it myself (aprt from a quick go) but just ordered import US copy of the GOW Collection, looks amazing. Apparently only being released in the UK as part of the GOW3 £70-£80 deluxe edition.

PM for Mitch.

I've just discovered the joys of GTA IV online, just messing about in Free Mode with 3 or 4 mic'd up mates. I was laughing so hard I thought I'd torn something.

Spangles is utterly addicted to Assassin's Creed 2, to the point where she's now got total control of the Xbox, more or less. It's a beautiful game, isn't it?

Also, is anyone else a little bit excited about the prospect of Perfect Dark on Xbox Live Arcade?

Hmm. I imagine how convoluted a deal that was because it was developed by Rare, who were Nintendo partners, but were bought by Microsoft, but the Goldeneye/PD team left etc. etc.
