My Xbox prompted me to download an update for Pro Evo today. As far as I can tell, the main difference is extra in-game advertising. Bastards.

I've spent the last week unexpectedly hooked on Dragon Age Origins. Don't normally like swords & dragons fantasy, but it's really well done. Unfortunately I didn't pay attention and completed the main game before the side quests, so there's a lot of unfinished business. Hope they take the Fallout 3 approach and 're-open' the end of the game in later DLC.

I'm a compulsive side quester in RPGs, which is one of the reasons I've put Dragon Age to one side. I need to give it plenty of time - which is what I plan to do in the Boxing Day to New Year break.

It really is very good, and I can see replay value as well - I want to try the various character backgrounds and specs to see what difference they make. Picking your companions (and the order in which they become available) makes a huge difference as well.

Oh, it's great. I've played about 10 hours so far, mostly over the course of two days. I just want to be able to dedicate more time to it and power through.

I'm really interested in playing Dragon Age at some point. (Probably in another 5 years or so.)

It is, of course, yet another game that I wanted to exist (in that I thought to myself, wouldn't it be cool if...) several years ago. So I'm glad that game makers have finally caught up to that point.

(See also, pro mode in FIFA...)

By the way, are there any RPG games that let you play as a Monster yet? (ie. play as a lowly Kobold robbing simple-minded Adventurers, and slowly grow a following of like minded fellows...)

Quick question for GY and fellow gamers:

Rock Band, for the XBox: is this Band in a Box the Rock Band 1 package, and is it as flimsy as some of the reviews suggest?

I've seen people mentioning the RB2 instruments being better, but can't see them anywhere on Amazon.

Edit - having re-read some of the reviews, they suggest the instruments are all wired, too, which is a bit shit.

Can anyone suggest a better instruments package?

I have an xbox under the tree, which I have managed to stop myself from playing prior to it being wrapped up. I'm currently debating whether to launch myself into Dragon Age, Fallout 3 or Borderlands first. Any suggestions?

Blimey. The three of those together will keep you busy. I'd go Fallout 3 first - the best of the three & the most imaginative plots, for me, then Dragon Age and finally Borderlands just to shoot things.

Thanks man; that's what I was thinking, I've seen Fallout 3 in action and it looks incredible.

Has anyone played Saboteur yet? Looks great, but open-world sandbox style games seem to either hit big time or fail pretty badly, and I'm worried they've bitten off too much with the concept.

TMA: Yeah, those are the instruments from the first game. They work fine with the second one, and I haven't had any problems with them, but people do say the second game's instruments are better. If wireless is important to you, then definitely go for RB2 instruments, though they will eat through a lot of batteries.

The only one of those I've played is Fallout 3 but it's massively recommended. Graphically I think other games leave it in the dust (particularly Far Cry 2) but as a story it's a wonderfully immersive experience with some great sci-fi ideas implemented beautifully.

If your PC can handle it, I'd recommend playing Dragon Age on that. It's the system it was designed for and the combat is much better. As far as I know, Fallout 3 and Borderlands are more or less identical between PC and Xbox, gameplay-wise. Of course, you can't use mods on the Xbox versions.

I don't think my PC could hack it. Not least because it's broken right now. Well, the adaptor is. And the battery is flat.

It's a two and a bit year old Vaio laptop, wich can't play GTA4 (although i've heard that that's pretty common even on good machines) but played Pro Evo 2009 and Bioshock with no problems. I guess it might be able to run it.

Did you guys play Mass Effect? It's on my list for sometime in the new year I think.

Mass Effect is mostly great, but the side quests are really dull. I'm really hoping they do something about that for the sequel.

Been given a second copy of GTA IV for the PS3 but without the instruction book. Does anyone know where I could get hold of a downloadable version?

So Assassin's Creed II is great fun. So far, so not repetitive. It feels familiar enough that I'm swaggering about 15th Century Italy as cockily as Ezio.

When you first meet a character called Mario he says: "Don't you recognise me? It's-a me, Mario!" which made me giggle.

I'm definitely getting that when it finally appears for the PC. I've just finished Arkham Asylum and the sneaky takedown bits are definitely my favourite, so I reckon I'll enjoy it.
