I'm right in thinking that Uncharted 2 is a PS3 exclusive, aren't I?

Been playing Borderlands all weekend & it's not bad at all. The graphical style is appealing (although it wears off; there's only so much desert you can take), and it has a reasonable mix of shooting and RPG-lite. Missions have decent breadth but far too much long-distance grinding (go here, collect this, walk all the way back here). Bad guy re-spawning is a bit irritating - any time you switch between areas and get a loading screen, all of the enemies reset, so while if you want you can go hunt them again it does mean you have to constantly fight your way through every bit you've already played. It seems to have a good length, mind - played on and off for three days and only just made it to the second area (of about three or four, I think). Haven't tried multi-player though.

Someone told me that Sid Meier has released/is about to release a civ-like game on facebook.

This could ruin my life. Does anyone know anything about it?

I wanted to let you know we’ll soon be looking for beta testers to help us develop a unique new way to play Civilization. Ever since we finished Civilization® Revolution™ last year, I’ve been looking at ways of expanding the Civ gameplay experience to include solo, competitive and cooperative play to take advantage of the uniqueness of social networks. We’re calling this project Civilization Network and the full game will be available next year on Facebook. Civilization Network will allow you to join together with your friends to create the world’s most powerful, richest, smartest, or just plain coolest civilization. You can coordinate your strategy to win great battles, share your technology to jump ahead of your rivals, lobby your family and friends to form your own government and win vital elections, manage and grow your cities to maximize production and happiness, spy on your enemies, and work with your friends to create the great Wonders of the World. The game will offer everything you enjoy in Civ in a fully persistent environment – you can play as much as you like, whenever you like, and it’ll be free to play.

We’ll offer a closed beta of the game soon, so stay tuned for details on how you can sign-up to participate. The full game will launch in 2010. For more information about Civilization Network, including development updates and behind-the-scenes posts from me and the Firaxis team, join our Facebook fanpage here.

Thanks and Stay Civilized!

Rubbish? Pah.

Anyway, has anyone bought the new Forza yet? I'm sorely tempted to hit Game after work, as it's pay day.....

Looks like I made the right decision when I bought the PS3 version of Brutal Legend.

In other news, the Sky TV/Xbox service is supposedly live. The subscription fees seem pretty damn steep for the channels on offer and no HD content. I haven't seen what they're charging for PPV movies and/or sports.

Here's the channel list:Entertainment Pack

G.O.L.D.
Sky Real Lives
Sky Arts 1
MTV ONE
Sky Sports News
British Eurosport
ESPN Classic
Sky News
National Geographic
Nat Geo Wild
History
Eden
Cartoon Network
Boomerang
Nickelodeon
Disney Channel
Nick Jr

Sport Pack

Sky Sports 1
Sky Sports 2
Sky Sports 3
Sky Sports XTRA
ESPN (additional cost)
(Plus all sport video on-demand channels)

Movies Pack

Sky Movies Screen 1
Sky Movies Screen 2
(Plus over 400 movies on-demand)

So, I bought Forza and......it's rather fantastic. Looks amazing, the sensation of speed is incredibly convincing and it's more forgiving at the beginning these days, so you can actually get into it without feeling like a total spanner for the first month. Recommended.

I'm still playing with my PS2, so a little out of my depth here. Looking to upgrade this Christmas and I like the look of the 'new; slim PS3. Can i play my PS2 games on them? Sony say not but on some gaming websites it says the PS3 will.
By the looks of this thread it looks like some of the best games are on the X-Box, but I would like something that plays Blu-Rays as well.
Wii's look nice as well, do they play Blu-Ray?

No Blu-Ray on Wii, I'm afraid. Nor XBox, for that matter. If you want Blu-Ray, it's PS3 all the way.

360 has a huge back catalogue and I still prefer the online provision (in my limited experience) but there's no mistaking it - PS3 looks beautiful. Plus you can play Uncharted 2 which I'm incredibly jealous of.

The price of a PS3 has gone down so now would be a good time to buy. Sony released the PS3 slim recently which is a thinner, more streamlined version of the original model.

Theres one snag though...

Its not backwards compatible, so I'd keep your PS2. You could buy the original PS3 (the first model) which ARE able to run PS2 games (although the one with the 40GB hard drive doesn't)...

I'm in the same boat as you. My primary console is a PS2 (the thin one) and still get a lot joy from playing it.

As far as I know, none of the PS3s ever officially sold in Europe were backwards compatible. The first generation of PS3s in the US and Japan were, but it was phased out rapidly to bring the price down.

That would explain it, over here we get the US models. The PS3 slim has phased out backwards compatibility altogether which is a little baffling since the PS2 (both the 1st gen and 2nd gen models) play all PS1 discs...

Its a bit of a shame but if you still have your PS2 then you're pretty much sorted.

Played Red Faction Guerilla properly for the first time tonight and it's pretty fun. Finally, a game that combines GTA, Marxism and incredibly OTT wanton destruction. Now, if only there was a title to satisfy my DJ cravings...

Heh, yeah DJ Hero looks like fun.

The Left4Dead2 demo is of course brilliant. On first impressions, it felt a little like a load of DLC for the original Left4Dead, but even in the demo you begin to see the depth of the game emerging. It's gotta be played on the 'Expert' setting.

True to its terrifying form, I understand there is to be a new difficulty called 'Realism'. Just how the good God damn are four supposed to survive that, let alone one?

I acquired DJ Hero today (after nabbing it as a prize in a competition) and I can confirm it is serious fun. You'll either love or hate the music and the controller can tire the wrists out quite quickly, but apart from that it gets 10 thumbs up for sheer ridiculousness. It's far trickier than Guitar Hero.
