Most of the campus has been reopened now, though I'm guessing I still shouldn't go to the library during my lunch hour.

good lord, shooting people in a university campus. the worst thing that we had to face back in the day was naked rowers running around, and some other weirdoes running around and masturbating on college landmarks.

Thanks for the offer of asylum, ursus! Brave New Books is an Alex Jones-ish (loony libertarian) conspiracy theory bookstore, I think.

Anyway, it turns out that the shooter was a student, and somewhat of a gun nut, fascinated by the Columbine and Virginia Tech shootings, which suggests this could have turned out much worse than it did. (This profile in the Daily Texan makes the guy seem a bit sad, though, more than anything.)

Looks like the concealed guns on campus law is going to die in committee again, thankfully. Doesn't seem to have enough votes in the Senate, though it flew through the House with no trouble.

I was at the capitol yesterday lobbying with my union, and smirked when we had to go through metal detectors to enter. I wonder why the conservative representatives haven't tried to get rid of them? I have a feeling their love of concealed weapons isn't strong enough to tolerate them in their own workplace.
