I seem to remember Felicity got hit on a roundabout, Fausto. Carbon frame had to be written off even though it looks fine (as is the way).

I know everyone here is more about racing bike porn, but just get a load of this lad. As I lived in Edinburgh, I know a lot of those places really well. Some of the drops he does are just ridiculous.

An ignoramus asks:

I've got an old woollen Ti-Raleigh-Creda cycling shirt, a bit like this:

-

But, being at least partly woollen, will it stink if I get sweaty in it?

Sorry for the diversion.

It shouldn't smell if it's merino. I have a merino cycling shirt and it never smells. I've seen claims that it has some in-built quality that stops it smelling, or something. You can usually wash them, though. Mine never suffers when I stuck it in a machine on 30 degrees.

What happened to your Bianchi?

dglh had it right, and sorry to take 6 weeks to respond to your kind concern for my Bianchi (lots of shit going down here, so I fucked off to Spain for 6 weeks).

The good news is my solicitors (appointed via the CTC) have been in touch to say the culprit's insurers 1st offer is £2,300 (they expect we could get more) and that DOESN'T include the cost of the bike, which they are still considering (!)

So I'm certainly contemplating a little trip to Colnago-land for the replacement!

I must have got the wrong train as I have ended up in Orbealand instead. Yesterday I put down a £600 deposit on a £3000 Orca in Euskaltel/Dundee Utd colours. Like this one:

Shimano Ultegra, size 51cm for a shortarse, thing of beauty I'm sure you'll agree. Should arrive in 3 weeks.

That is lovely. What groupset will it have? Euskatel use Shimano don't they? I'd love to hear a review of the electronic shifters if anyone has them.

Still not here, and I'm now getting desperate for it to arrive so I can have a shot on it before the gritters and the clocks going back shove it into the garage for the winter.

Looks kind of cool, but they sell their bikes through Urban Outfitters. I can't support them.

Thanks Fausto, an excellently spec'd piece of equipment. I like the pink bits the most.

Yippee! It has arrived. Only had a brief chance to get out on it the wet weekend just gone but the difference between £1 and £3k is easily felt, especially on the hills.

A question, to those who have a treasured/expensive bike:

have you insured it? who with? where the fuck do I find insurance for less than £400 (that's what CTC quoted me)...?

I use E&L insurance upto £2000. It costs about £24 month. And there's a £50 excess or 10% of what you're claiming for. So claiming for the full £2000 would cost another £200.

It is expensive but when you do need to claim you're glad you've got it.

If you do go ahead READ EVERY BIT OF THE SMALL PRINT. I had one of my claims denied because I didn't have a security code on the bike. So despite the fact that it had been genuinely stolen they didn't pay up.

Thanks, amp-I found them through a search and have now gone ahead. The small print certainly deserved attention-not to be left unattended more than 12 hours (could be awkward if I leave it in my office).

E & L stands for 'Equine and Livestock' btw! So I can start calling it my 'steed'without fear of contradiction. (Ridicule is another matter...)

Yeah - I have a claim going thorugh now. There's so many little things they try and use to wriggle out of paying up

I haven't insured mine, beyond my ordinary house insurance.
My Cinelli did break (the rear drop out cracked) and I had it re-sprayed (pink).
There were £300 worth of repairs required and my insurance covered it (apart from the first £50). To be honest the premiums were way too high for my Colnago. I just make sure that I don't leave unlocked anywhere. In fact it's locked in the garage and I don't leave it anywhere. When I ride it, I do that and return home on it. I don't need to lock it up anywhere.

Forgot to press you on your opinion of Orbeas, Fausto....?

I know it's not classic Italian glamour, but it does end in a vowel...

I certainly don't intend to leave it unattended anywhere other than inside my locked office/house/garage, but I think they might quibble about even some of that, reading the small print.
