Apologies if he's mentioned up thread but Chevy Chase in Paul Simon's 'You Can Call Me Al' video is worth a mention.
More a pain in the arse then deeply unlikable perhaps.
The video for that Young Radicals song, You Only Get What You Give, is a veritable rogue's gallery of scum.
0:44-0:50 - Sharp-suited business type who's, like, so obviously one of Them and no doubt a total "douchebag" is chased down by a mob and snared in a net thrown upon him from ten feet above for committing the heinous crime of walking through a shopping centre with one assumes to be his wife.
1:12-1:15 - A guy showcasing a bunch of captive dogs in cages is chased off and the locks on the cages are opened, with the dogs being freed. What the video doesn't show you is that in all probability the parents of the kids who released the dogs refused to take them in which meant they were released back onto the streets. Unfortunately the dogs' long period of captivity had by now rendered them vicious which was amply demonstrated by the fact that they savaged a toddler and were shot on sight by the LAPD. Well done, morons.
1:37 - the "Suit" and assorted other unfortunates are forced into the dog cages, instananeously violating a host of human rights. It's not unreasonable to assume that a lot of these kids found future employment in Abu Ghraib.
2:21 - The poor woman at the food stall has turned up to work that day just to do her job without any hassle and put some food on the table for her kids, maybe hoping that the tips can contribute towards their college funds. Instead she is all of a sudden forced to deal with dozens of boisterous, aggressive, loud assholes "demanding" that they get what they "deserve" and who "won't be told to wait, maaaan!"
3:18 - Assault on a security officer. Six months suspended sentence for a first time offender, five grand fine and three hundred hours community service, surely?
Yeah, brilliant stuff. The band themselves might have appeared newer and more radical had they not looked like call centre middle managers on dress-down Friday.
Although, after re-reading Purves' original post on this thread (I had never seen that video before, either), I'm inclined to agree with him and SR: Nothing we can find will top the antics of that self-satisfied cow. I think what makes it worse than the New Radicals' video is that the Radicals one is so patently absurd that you can laugh at its stupidity. Since the late 80's town centres in Britain and Ireland have been positively festooned with individuals similar to our good friend Ms Henderson and we all know or at least knew people like that at school or university.

Reason: I've been calling them "Young" Radicals...
What's Billie Whitelaw doing in that first vid? Was it a paid gig, is she the girl''s mum in real life, or did she owe someone a favour? And, most importantly, has Morrissey ever been seen smiling by another human being?

Come on... what makes the girl in the Every Day... video so absurd is that she's clearly intended to be a stereotype, an amalgam of qualities that make Smiths fans so pompous and pious; and, one suspects, with humourous, self-depreciating intent on Morrissey's part. I'm surprised she warrants serious inclusion on this thread.

I mean, am I missing a very obvious wind-up here?
Yeah, cos Morrissey's always been known for his "self-depreciating intent".
Sorry Mumpo, you're plain wrong. That video is 100% sincere, and we're clearly meant to see the world through that girl's outsider eyes and share her view of it. And we're meant to think she's really cool.

Well there's a part at the end of one of those videos (I think Cryin' is the one) where she fakes suicide by standing on an overpass, attracting a crowd of emergency services and onlookers in the process, waits until her boyfriend (Stephen Dorff - quality) shows up, jumps off the bridge ostensibly to her death only to reveal that she has a bungee cord tied around her waist and merely dangles above the freeway flipping the finger to Mr Dorff.
What he did to her to deserve this treatment I can't remember but she doesn't come out of it particularly well. Especially not if you consider that the emergency services that were diverted to respond to an APB of a "jumper" on the freeway probably missed out on three other suicide calls, a drug store robbery, a fire in an apartment building...
And especially not if a double-decker bus or a car carrier, at that moment, loomed over the hill. Driver thinking to himself, "Wait, is that somebody hanging from the..." THWUMMMP.
