Ben Orr - normally the bass player - was the vocalist on 'Drive'. I believe Ocasek ended up marrying the woman in that video, incredibly.

Apologies for my transgression of the rules.

Anyway, how's about the Nathan Barley-esque third world peasant-patronising, taxi-driver haranguing cock trying to get off with Sophie Ellis-Bextor in that Spiller video?

SR is my rule-enforcement attack dog on this thread. No artistes allowed in otherwise we could all just post up Jason Mraz videos and go home.

Nothing but third parties who we're supposed to like allowed.

Troube is, this is a tough one, because nobody comes close to Little Miss Trudgingoverwetsand.

At the risk of turning this into a "hating models paid to be in heroic rock videos" thread, the one that gurns around in her bed on the video for Manic Street Preachers' very poor 'She Is Suffering' video always used to make me think, "good". (She doesn't even turn up until about 3 mins in, but still I remember it.)

How many smug, annoying, hittable-with-a-toffee-hammer faces can one man pull in two-and-three-quarter minutes? Find out here.

Edit: mind you...

Trouble is, she's ghastly.

And called Lucette Henderson, apparently.

(Lurking amongst the 'Nice! Sooooo 80s!!!' comments underneath).

I was gonna...not exactly spring, but maybe half rise from the desk, to her defence, but 'Lucette' takes us back to the posh names thread of a week or two back, and confirms the 'ghastly' diagnosis.

Courteney Cox, Dancing in the Dark

A major league Fail of a video if ever there was one. The polished-till-he-shines Boss attempts to get Courteney — who has all the natural rhythm of a stale breadstick — to wiggle her little derriere. The overall effect is vaguely lecherous and not a little sinister, perhaps because it was directed by Brian "Gimme more of ya crotch Bruce" DePalma.

So I asked myself, what is the the worst music video ever made. That one probably has somebody really irritating it. (Personally I can't get past the earrings.)

I believe Dancing In The Dark was Springsteen's first 'proper' music video. He had apparently been privately hostile towards the concept of the music video (as were others in the US rock fraternity), and had to be dragged largely against his own will into the late 20th century.

He was — and probably still is. All the vids from Born in the USA of which this was the first, and the worst, are different degrees of lame. Since then almost everything he has appeared in has been built around (genuine) live performances.

The worst from Born In The USA was the video to 'I'm On Fire' in which Bruce appears as a working class mechanic in lust with an well-to-do, attractive, married woman.

Year after. I'm sure Robin could make a socio-cultural point about the intersection with Reaganism.
