I got FACES but I wasn't sure whether it was NEW or THE, and I couldn't see how THE was clued


If it comes from most of... pousSE CAFE at higH Temperature. it's not most -it's rather less than half.


Anyway

High temperature is often initialled to HT, as in UHT milk, then it becomes a case of reading it back. Instead of the "most of", there could have been a "consume soup from", but I suppose Wyatt may have considered that to be too easy, not that I'd want to speak for him, mind.

HT is an accepted abbreviation for "high temperature". It's most of "pousSE-CAFE HT": 8 letters out of 12.

A more fatal objection is that they were actually called "Faces", but I only found that out after setting the clue.

To be fair though, although record sleeves bore the legend "Faces", I don't recall them ever being referred to as such on music programmes or by fans of the group.
