I'm not afraid to admit that I earn a living teaching rich kids how to speak English and the other day one of them was telling me how they like to cook meals using their "Bimby". I've never heard of Bimby, but from this girl's description, it sounded like the greatest thing on earth. The basic premise is you throw a load of ingredients into it and it does the rest - mixing, cooking, preparation - everything.

I've just checked how much they cost on the internet and discovered why I've never hear of them, they cost over €1000 and you can only buy them through select Vorwerk suppliers.

So a simple question - has anyone on here got one and if so, is it worth a grand?

Read about it on some websites after reading your post, and I can't figure out how it works. Can it only make things that are blended together? I mean, you can't toss some pork chops and apples in there and get a nice crusy pork chop with apple sauce on the side, you'd get it all mixed together, right?

Here is the Australian sales blurb and for some reason it annoyed the shit right out of me... especially the 'Back to Basics' opening paragraph.

I put it to you (anyone), that it is overpriced toss.

Thanks for saving this thread. When said student was telling me about the Bimby, I literally skipped back home after the class think how my life could be completely revolutionised. I mean, buying a pressure cooker was a major moment in my culinary life, great food made easy, this was just taking it a step further. But €1000?

But what does it do that a food processor won't do? is it some attempt to combine that with an ice-cream maker and a bread machine? sounds more complicated than just cooking stuff tbh.

I'm torn between "that doesn't sound like real cooking" and "that sounds incredibly cool". Leaning towards the former.

The Australian website offers a home demo, so assuming that offer applies worldwide then you could check it out yourself.

Doesn't tempt me, I like chopping and stirring stuff.

Yeah, there's something about deftly wielding a sharp knife, in particular, that's really rewarding. Seriously.

Is it just me, or does "Bimby / Thermomix" sound like the title of one of evilC's music threads?

Plus, if "cooking in the bimby" isn't a euphemism it bloody well should be.

Exactly what I was thinking! And I first clicked on this thread expecting that it would be a "whoops--wrong forum, admins" thread.
