40p? That's crazy!

How many teams do Corona sponsor? Seems their logo is on the back of a number of jerseys.

Yeah, crazy price.
Erm, several is the best answer I can give!
The brewery (Modelo) owns Toluca and Santos Laguna but seem to sponsor a few others too...

Bump: okay, I'm in Florida tomorrow. What interesting beer should I be looking for at the grocery stores? I don't like anything terribly strong (alcohol-wise) and I lean toward darker British-style ales.

Cheers.

Not a clue either. But Moorhouse's Black Cat is back on offer in Booths, so I'm happy.

I was up the eye hospital the other day, with me eye (I've got this eye, you see), and I found this Bavarian beer hall right next to the place. Do London OTFers know about this joint? It doesn't have the beer range of the Jolly Gardeners/Zeitgeist, but it does draught Paulaner and Lowenbrau Hell, plus various Weizenbiers. You can get it by the litre, and they do Wurstl and Brez'n and Schweinshaxe and all that too. Waitresses in dirndls, and the Bundesliga on. (I stopped for a quick one to take my mind off this eye of mine.)

That would be the Bavarian Beerhouse on City Road. Haven't been for a couple of years but it's a fun place if there's a group of you.

My razor thin report of beer in Florida is as follows:

- it's really cheap

- it's available anywhere, but Wal-Mart is clearly the price leader

- Reed's statesmen Yuengling do a wonderful Traditional Lager and a very nice Original Black & Tan, of which I drank quite a few. I also had a couple of Newcastle Brown in clear glass bottles to help clear out someone's fridge. I'd like to have sampled a greater variety, but couldn't find anywhere selling single bottles. It's all six-packs or greater.

There's a microbrewery in St Augustine which does pretty decent, if not spectacular pale ales. Can't remember what it's called, though.

I had a pre-stag do at the Bavarian Beerhouse. It's not cheap, but no worse than any other London watering hole. I remember being hugely impressed at how strong the waitresses were - ours managed to carry something like eight of the big half-litre steins, full, without a problem.

This is going to pose marketing challenges in the US.

The EU's trademarks authority has permitted a German firm to brew beer and produce clothing under the name "Fucking Hell". It may be an expletive in English, but in German it could refer to a light ale -- Hell -- from the Austrian town of Fucking. Whether it will be brewed there is another question.

I can report that, as of yesterday, the Wegman's on Peach Street in Erie, PA has Yeungling Black & Tan on for $5.99 for six. And due to PA's draconian licensing laws, you need to produce photo ID regardless of age. I asked "Even if it's a grey-haired old man?" and the guys says "Dude, we carded a 102 year old man once."

Last night I was in a pub - in the South of England - that was selling Marston's EPA for £1:49 a pint!

I would say "result!", but there was one huge drawback: this pub was The Goose, in Aldershot. I was just there to meet up with some friends prior to moving on for a birthday meal for one of them. It was the first time I'd ever been in the place ...possibly the last, as well.
