I wouldn't mind if Mr Ferguson got a proper trashing tonight, and that while playing with a first selection 11.

Of the games to chose from, I think I'll look up AZ-Anderlecht. I have a feeling it can be a very open game with lots of attacking football from both sides.

If I was to pick a club I hope will win this, it must be Udinese. They've always been time well invested if you want entertainment, don't have any trophy to speak of, and Di Natale is a legend.

I wrote this on the Fat Thursday thread, but it appears it's about fat players, not the Europa League - Magik's loss, could've been a hundred thread I tell ya. As it stands, I give it 26 posts, maximum.

Some really appealing games tonight, looking forward to watching the two Manchester clubs' games. The proposed starting XI for Porto tonight looks very tasty, even if their recent form has been patchy to say the least:

--------Helton--------
Danilo-Rolando-Maicon.Alvaro
--------Fernando------
--Lucho------Moutinho----
--Varela--Hulk--James----

James is the key man for Porto, although all the attention will be on Hulk. Varela might not get the nod, Porto's manager Vitor Pereira favours ineffective Djalma for some reason. If he starts with Varela, I reckon Porto will win, if he starts with Djalma, I reckon they'll lose.

Maicon the weak link in defence, replacing Ottamendia. And Helton is always good value for a f*ck up in big games.

How are Twente at the moment? They ought to beat Steaua one assumes, especially since Steaua haven't played a competitive game for two months (this being the winter break), and having been shit even when they were playing them.

Twente were beaten last weekend at home by local rivals Heracles. McLaren's second term had got off to a flyer with 5-0 and 4-1 wins but came up short last weekend.

Should have enough to beat Steau but we'll see.

I am intrigued by the BeNe derby between AZ and Anderlecht this evening.

26 posts Steveeeeeeee? i'll give it 32 minimum. You up for a bet?

Anyhow: Legia of Warsaw (who signed ex Rangers favorite, Nacho Novo earlier today) entertain Sporting of Lisbon while Wisla Krakow play hosts to Standard Liege. It all depends on the weather is my clever prediction as whole country is well under snow.

Meanwhile massive thanks to Erwin for contibuting with this piece futbolnet.pl/wiadomosci/przedstawiamy-sporting-lizbona
and to StephL for that

Didn't Nacho play for Rubin Kazan the other day, or was that another nacho?

That would have been Bibras Natcho (pronounced Natkho), an Israeli international.

A very strong team from ferguson. He seems to be taking it very seriously.

So brace for the criticism when we inevitably lose this one. I would imagine that the players will approach this like a training match.

Thanks for the name-check, Magik, but ... although my Polish is non-existent, I did work out that only two or three paragraphs of that piece are actually down to me ... (perhaps you meant "contributing to"?)

steveeeeeeeee ... might Vítor Pereira play Cristian Rodriguez for Porto tonight (unless he's injured)? He might even bull-headedly include him at the expense of James, with Varela on the other wing ...

I don't know about that. That team is full of players trying to get into the first team.

Something else to be considered that after the game against liverpool, united have only 6 home league ties left. They're out of both cups having played only one home cup game. So if they go out in this round of the CL they will have had only 24 home games, and that would seriously hit their income.

Last year it was 29, 28 the year before that 32 the season before that. 29 the season before that. So you can assume that ferguson is going to be under instructions to keep that number up as close as possible to the maximum of 28 possible matches available.

Neil warnock has pulled out of the Irish coverage of this game because he is considering his future options or something. so could Neil warnock be about to open the portals to hell by uniting with ken bates and leeds united to complete the anti-trinity?

I'm enjoying watching Vertonghen so far, although I do have a penchant for a good deep lying midfielder it's fair to say.

Strong, comfortable in possession, space aware and good at changing pace and stepping out from the back. He looks the sort of player Arsene Wenger really, really needs.

Decent game so far, pretty balanced.

FECK. I had assumed it was 20:45... AS MID-WEEK EUROPEAN MATCHES IN THE NETHERLANDS HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SINCE AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER.

I've been driving the Vertonghen to Arsenal bandwagon for a good year now, you're welcome to hop on!
