On the scrapheap? I'd have thought he'd be a fairly sensible appointment for Leeds, perhaps?

EDIT - Just checked the Wiki and it seems Leeds is his boyhood team, in trendy Martin O'Neill & Sunderland style.

I like McCarthy but it was, as you say inevitble, Wolves were definitely going down if he had stayed, probably will anyway. They'll do OK in the Championship.

Some good timing from the Beeb's rolling sports page:

1055: BREAKING

Wolves have sacked manager Mick McCarthy.

1047: GET INVOLVED:

Luke Houghton on Twitter : Why has Mick McCarthy not been sacked yet made us look like a League 2 team get him out now."

I would have thought Mick’s no nonsense straight talking and strong personality was exactly what Ken Bates wouldn’t want. He'll get another job soon enough.

It's been coming since Morgan went into the dressing room. Another West Midlands club should be thinking seriously about doing the same.

Hopefully there's a couple of Wolves fans on here who'll throw in their tuppence worth. From the privileged position of the armchair BRC supporter, it looks like McCarthy did a good job with Wolves over the years, given the resources they've had to compete with. But then again I don't have to pay to watch them every week. Their football did look pretty aimless the times I've seen them this season.

Cheeky! I’ve been as consistent on McLeish (and Houllier) as you used to be on Alan Hutton when you had to suffer that on a weekly basis. Disastrous appointments by Lerner.

Who next for Wolves? A pretty uninspiring betting shortlist has Curbishley, Bruce, Warnock and Billy Davies near the top. Roy Keane if Steve Morgan really wants to twist the knife. You couldn’t say any of them are much of an upgrade on McCarthy.

Honestly can't believe Steve Bruce is being touted as the likely choice (from what i've read online anyway).

McCarthy for England!

Unlike Harry, he's already taken a team to the World Cup!

Someone on The Guardian posted that gif to YouTube accompanied by Berlin's "Take My Breath Away."

It works, is all I'm saying.

wolves got promoted a couple of years ago, and have turned a small profit in each of their seasons. They kept costs down and were able to keep spending money on the team. They have a stable set up. To be honest, wolves should be expecting mid-table solidity, not a relegation struggle. Mick took them as far as he could a couple of seasons ago. Everything since has been sadly predictable.

Watching MOTD2 last night he looked shell-shocked.

I thought he wouldn't be in post much longer. Still a bit surprised he's been sacked, though. I can't see how any of the names mentioned would be a better manager, given where Wolves are right now.

Is the right answer for me. I mean, no-one has an automatic right to anything, but Wolves has been a well-run club over the last few years and I think that Morgan is probably entitled to wonder why they haven't improved with time. Every time I've seen them play this season, they've been woeful.
