Jebus, the new schedule is incredibly successful in sucking interest out of these games and, I presume, reducing attendances both for home and away supporters.Why have UEFA agreed to weaken international football even more?
Or is it just me?

I can't think of a single honourable reason to have European Championships with 24 teams. The qualifying rounds are likely to be a huge anti-climax.
I suspect it won't be long before top "ranked" teams become exempt from qualifying.

It's still only 16 teams this time around, although i completely agree with the Vole.
I've said it before: I think they should go back to eight teams for the Euros and 16 teams for the World Cup, in order to bring back the excitement in Qualifiers.
I also think that reintroducing some classic family values would be in order.

i had initially understood that the qualifiers would be spread over the weekend, with the host country able to choose whether to play on friday or saturday. however, i see that all of the autumn games are played friday / tuesday.
looking into next year, the spring fixtures are spread friday/saturday and tuesday/wednesday.
i dont know why this is happening.

But the day the games are played on isn't linked to the number of teams in the finals, it in order to "get the players back to their clubs quicker".
It's rubbish, there are enough elements conspiring to prioritise club over international football without volunteering (or succumbing to pressure to introduce) this very significant negative switch.

what this man said...Stefan anything happening in Stockholm football wise from 31/10 until 5/11? i'll be there then. does 2nd division (the one Hammarby are in) finish their schedule in October?
any decent sites about swedish league football that can be read in english to suggest?

Unfortunately our last home game is October 23. AIK play at home to Elfsborg on October 31, that's about it. In a despairing season, the comedy value of champions AIK's hopefully unsuccessful fight aganst relegation has been one of few reasons to cheer.

Is it more expensive? I would think that traveling closer to the weekend, and not in the middle of the work week, would make things easier.

It's been changed from Saturday, not mid-week. The change was from Sat/Wed double headers to Fri/Tue.

Inca, in many cases it means that you have to miss at least one day of work, which isn't the case if the game is on a Saturday.
