Apologies if I've missed this, but how the bloody hell are Umbro justifying the release of another new England home kit? The previous one was earlier this year, wasn't it?

The previous one was released in spring 2009, but this does feel unusually early for a replacement. Maybe they just want to distance themselves from anything associated with the World Cup.

At least they've gone back to blue shorts (albeit a bit too blue).

Were any of those people in the same room when that photo was taken?

The previous kit came out over a year ago now. Not that another one is needed, but...

Peter Saville was called in with a brief to 'get some colour in' to this new shirt (presumably to differentiate it from the previous one, and perhaps to make it harder to fake). So it has lots of funny crosses on the back:

I'm more a fan of his earlier strips, myself.

He's just been to a police station, rather than a police box.

That long ago? Bugger me. Still, how many games did they play in it?

FIFA should make national teams do these things in four-year cycles.

I've finally seen some proper photos of that England kit and if I may raise a couple of questions;

A) it's a Finland kit really, isn't it?

B) with it's grandad shirt collar and preponderance of denimy blue, is it some form of tribute to Francis Rossi?

This may have been covered elsewhere but OM's run of gorgeous change shirts continues with this "European" effort;

Also (and I presume this was covered on the US thread?) I didn't even know New York Cosmos had reformed let alone released this;

Cosmos aren't actually playing (the trademark was just acquired by a new party), so I sort of wonder why someone would buy a shirt from a fiction, when they can get any one of a dozen real Cosmos shirts from TOPPS.

Indeed.

This seems as good a place as any to mention that on Thursday, I took a daytrip to Colonia del Sacramento, in Uruguay, and in a shop there I saw two Rampla Juniors shirts. I've wanted a Rampla Juniors shirt ever since I first saw them - green and red stripes. They're fantastic, and that was enough to make me a Rampla fan. When I first visited Montevideo I couldn't find one anywhere, and in two separate shops assistants told me 'pero Rampla no existe' ('But Rampla don't exist') - which they didn't mean literally, but rather that I should instead by a Nacional or a Peñarol shirt. A team people outside Uruguay might have heard of, y'know.

Anyway, I didn't buy either of these ones as they were URU$790 (about AR$160, or £35), and for a new, synthetic shirt that I'd never actually wear, due to the material it's made from, that's steep. But I was so thrilled to see an actual real-life one in the shop all the same.

Red & green you say? Mmmmmm. Photos?

Talking of South American obscurities, I liked this that I saw on Subside Sport's homepage;

Wow, Ursus, a sponsor-free one? I'd love that.

The one I saw yesterday was, from the look of the sponsor's logo (and judging by the other shirts the shop had), either current or very recent. I love their badge too. Something about it looks completely overdone, somehow.
