Promoted to the Conference in mid-March with a 27 point advantage and a goal difference of +61.

Hope to see them back in the league soon.

Nobody seems to know if they're spending way beyond what they can afford or if Holdsworth <spit> is just doing a really good job down there.

This must surely be one of the earliest promotions ever?

Notts County did it in March back in 97/98.

According to a comment on 200%, it's a sustainable budget and the difference is that their Trust is running the budget better than the previous chairman.

The board based the budget on an average attendance of 750, and we have doubled that, so things are (mystifyingly) in great shape. It's all so un-Newportlike, though.

20 years ago, the same old crap was being spouted by the same old shady bastards.

Predictably, that man is currently a couple of years into a seven-year stretch in a federal prison. For fraud.

Well when they had that run in Europe it looked exactly like our adidas kit on the telly, but I'm prepared to be corrected/still prepared to salute their return to a decent level!

Newport's quite on the up all round, at the moment, it seems. Football team doing well again, the Rugby team aren't doing badly either, and they're holding the Ryder Cup there in September.

Must be all the money from the toll bridges.

I was looking at google map a while ago and noticed what was obviously an old stadium next to the Newport Rodney Parade rugby ground. It now has a bowls club inside it.

Does anyone know what it used to be?

(speedway, greyhounds?)

I don't think it is fixed yet but it has been struggling for a while even before the owner died.

I think that what's a few people were wondering. Great job to be promoted so early, but I would say they are one of the only clubs in the BSS that haven't been cutting the budget..

Still fair play to Newport, be interesting to see how they fair in the Conference. As you noted will be a test if it's the finances, or Holdsworth that hold the key.

Congratulations, nice to see an old name back on the rise again.

Any predictions on how they will do/compete in the conference?

It was the cricket ground if I remember correctly. Though the last time I attended a game it was to see Mike Proctor in his pomp.
