News reaches this part time correspondent of Sheffield United's application for Judicial Review of the decision of Sheffield City Council to grant planning permission to Sheffield Wednesday to redevelop Hillsborough.

The judicial review, if successful, would quash the decision and presumably then Wednesday would then re-apply. A JR cannot be made on the merits or otherwise of the decision itself, but only on the way in which a decision is taken. I believe United are accusing the Council of bias in the way they took the decision (presumably ignoring the fact that they have also received permission to redevelop the Lane).

An uncharitable person may conclude that this is a bit of a fit of pique from United, following the short listing of Hillsborough for the 2018 World Cup, and not Bramall Lane.

Kevin McCabe- the lawyers friend.

Good to see you here noj.

I never thought United would actually do this. It's hard to see what they will gain even if they win.

Cheers bc.

It's certainly curious. On the face of it all it will do is cost both Sheffield United and the City Council lots of money, and in turn succeed in pissing the Council off. It's not like Wednesday were looking to start works next week (which they could still do anyway if they wanted to).
