Fergie may or may not be rattled by Man. City, but he still managed to smuggle his patented Magic Stopwatch on to the ref's wrist - the one that only stops after United have scored in the seventh minute of injury time.

I like ian.64's comment. Nouveau riche City's wished-for ascension reminds me of people celebrating Thatcher's resignation, as she was replaced by... another Tory. It was hardly what you'd call a revolution. - imp

"City have spent a lot of money, something Ferguson would know all about, but their challenge this season is to get under the skin of the big four."

This 'breaking the big four' stuff does fascinate certain pundits, who seem to think that everybody is obssessively drawn to the possibility of City destroying the monopoly atop the Premiership structure. In reality, (well, at least to some of us) it's akin to watching a mouthy bloke with a fat wallet and a flashy car trying to outshout all the other mouthy blokes with fat wallets and flashy cars. I wouldn't say the game has sunk low at all, but a certain heart has been lost when we're expected to champion a club whose appeal mainly seems to be that they could buy several small countries. - ian.64

Isn't it possible that all these remarks Ferg has made about Man City were in response to questions by journalists? Or did Ferg call press conferences or release spontaneous press releases to discuss the merits, or lack thereof, of Manchester City? - G.Man wants a hyphen
