I agree with mpellicio. It's the same old broadsides aimed in the general direction of the USA and Beckham. And why draw any sort of conclusion from an England friendly?

Perhaps what stands out most though is the presumed arrogant superiority that England should be better, when they are, in fact, a bit crap. The subversion of Sky Sports has unfortunately tricked people who should know better about "the greatest league in the world" and the national team associated with it. - hallicks

Im sorry mpellicio, but this is an accurate description of what a significant preportion of England (apart from those left at Wembley who think the Greece free-kick was only yesterday and cheer wildly for'Becks') think of David Beckham. I for one supported Steve McClaren when he dropped him. A decent player in his day, he is now too old and can put in a decent cross if under no pressure but hogs all free kicks and corners even though perhaps 50% are utterly useless. You never know, a Gerrard, Rooney or even (dare I say it???) Lampard drive rather than the same right foot curler we've had to watch every free-kick since 1999 might just catch an opposition Goalkeeper offguard. The difference between Beckham and David Bentley after the substitution on Wednesday was huge. Bentleys first touch saw him run at the Czech full back - and beat him - and put in a decent ball accross the box. Until then the hardest job the full back had was stop Wes Brown reaching the bye-line. Not exactly an International test. - loppy

this is poorly written to the point of distraction. if you want people to think you're smart just write an intelligent article don't get caught up in silly parenthetical notations and awfully constructed humor. - mpellicio
