Wow. I had to send that one to my Dad.

So does that count? Was the batter out because she caught it and not the LF'er?

Foul ball. She caught it to the left of the foul pole.

It's a Gatorade commercial.

Watched Manny's Dodger debut last night. 12,000 tickets for the game were sold after the deal. The crowd was giving him a standing ovation for everything--after his first at-bat, in which he grounded to short on the first pitch, he was cheered.

Had two singles--a lucky one on his second AB, a tough hop past the Arizona shortstop--but ground out into a 6-4-3 double play in the 9th inning with the Dodgers down 2-1. The whole crowd was obviously hoping for a walk-off home run, but they still loved him. I think he might do well in LA--there's less pressure than in Boston, and if last night is anything to go by, the fans are just happy to have a big name player that can hit the ball. It's been about 20 years since the Dodgers have had someone like that.

One thing, though--in his post-game interview, he was wearing a plain white dreadlock-holder head wrap thing. The Dodgers need to get on it pronto and have a LA logo one made up for him, like he had in Boston.

Really? I was worried about that.

Still an excellent effort.

I had my suspicions when I saw it for the first time--the production value seemed pretty high for a minor-league game.

What apparently happened was that some ad company made it for Gatorade, they ended their partnership and the video was put on the web before it was ever shown officially.

It would have just been Manny...ugh, you know the rest.

My favorite Manny story is one that I never knew about until I read Will Leitch's book. It was back when he was with Cleveland. He came into the clubhouse, and everyone was watching the OJ Simpson chase. When he found out that the police were chasing OJ, he said "what did Chad do?", referring to teammate Chad Ogea.

That's a great story. So Manny.

BTW, my boss often says "that's just Marian being Marian". I guess I fall into the Manny category at work: I'm high maintenance, but I produce results.

What exactly what Manny's gripe with the Red Sox? He didn't enjoy winning championships and being beloved by millions of people?

I've wondered about that myself, Reed. I guess there are probably dynamics between Manny and Mannygment (tee hee) that the general public might not be aware of. You know how that happens to regular people? Someone at work suddenly gives their notice and you had no idea that they were even looking for another job.

(sh)it happens.

The Yankees test the bounds of hubris.

$2500 a ticket for boxes near the field? An average ticket price of $75 a seat?

For 81 games?
