it's become clear to me that these music blogs are the best way to pick up some new and interesting business; as it happens i've lost my epic old collection of 'shared' music and need to start again from scratch.
i've heard say that a rapidshare account is the best way to go; anyone have any advice? can you download multiple things at once? or queue things up to download? or does it just stop you from having to wait an age to click 'download'?
any and all advice will be seized upon with boundless glee.
Aye, Soulseek should be all you need to replace most things. The blogs, I find, are generally better for things coming out as new, rather than for looking for specific tracks/artists.
do you have old-school posi hardcore, screeching goodlife style metalcore, stoner rock, sludge, doom, grindcore, big riff metal, early emo (indian summer/moss icon style), or anything interesting and vaguely "experimental" (horrible word, but there's a gist to it somewhere.)
Can probably do some of that. Old Man Gloom, Skullflower, AMM, This Heat, Earth? Gives me an excuse to dig out those CDs the ex-editor of Terrorizer magazine made me anyway.
sounds exciting, but don't go out of your way to rip any stuff - i'm sure a lot of it'll be there in one form or another anyway. and i've got most of the earth on wax.
either way, if you'd be so kind to pm me your username, i'd be grateful. i'm not sure what i'm on it as, but it's probably dogbeak.

Not really. There are loads and loads of blogs dealing in old stuff. A great joy of mine is trawling through blogs and discover things I never realised I wanted, or stuff I had forgotten I wanted.
Anyway, a good starting place for that is http://totallyfuzzy.blogspot.com Just trawl through what people are posting; it's incredible what great stuff people post.
As for Rapidshare, that fuckmuppet thing doesn't work in South Africa without an account. And with our bandwidth limit, it wouldn't be worth my time to buy an account.
luckily enough i've come across a much more convenient solution, having been invited around to a mate's house to plug into his server which is pretty much a mirror image of everything i lost (and then some).
either way, i'll gratefully accept any tips on places to find decent music!
i'll probably get into some caring and sharing if anyone is remotely interested.
Rapidshare seems to have changed its rules - used to have strict download limits, whereas now free users (i.e. anyone without a paid account) can download as much as they like in one day. At least, I seem to be able to. The only downside is you can't download more than one thing at a time, and the speed is not so great.
Thank you very much for that Totallyfuzzy link, I spent much of last night investigating those blogs, which are a new thing for me. Psychedelic funk from 1970s Benin, oh yes...
