music, for those moments either when you are filled with the feeling of energetic invincibility (shortly followed by the inevitable plummet) or alternatively as you're about to head out for the night.

inspired by

1. move on up curtis mayfield
2. I am the resurrection-Stone Roses
3. Uptight-Stevie wonder
4. Just like heaven-Cure
5. do you remember the first time-Pulp
6. close to me-cure
7. Babies-Pulp

The Cure make you feel pumped-up and energetic and invincible?

You're a strange young man, Colm.

Oooh, loads! However, off the top of my head right now...

Mory Kante - 'Yeke Yeke' (Hardfloor remix)
The Armoury Show - 'We Can Be Brave Again' (original 7" version)
The Psychedelic Furs - 'Heaven'
Papadoctrine - 'Flesh Hunter'

I guess this would alternatively be known as 'upper music'?

very good choice there.

Others I can think of:

-The brothers gonna work it out - Chemical Bros (ditto)
-Kelly Watch the Stars (remix) - Air
-Little Bitch; Do the dog - Specials
-Jumpin Jack Flash - The Stones or Ananda Shankar
-M.O.R. - Blur
-Ça Plane Pour Moi - Plastic Bertrand
-Le Responsable - Jacques Dutronc
-Gut Feeling - Devo

Another one:

Simple Minds - 'New Gold Dream' (though it worked better in 1982, I feel!)

those cure songs are actually more of the whole hungover buzz, but they're still pretty euphoric.

Rocks by primal scream
River deep mountain high Ike+Tina
le pastie de la bourgeoisie Belle and sebastian

One of the very best though
My Sweet lord- Nina simone.

I know someone who used to watch the either the beginning of The Matrix, Blade or Hard Boiled before going out on a Saturday night. He might still do this but I haven't seen him in a while.

Primal Scream are a good one for this kind of music, actually, aren't they?

'Swastika Eyes' is one such tune, certainly (and one that should probably be banned from being played in cars! I would just break the sound barrier if I drove a car listening to that!)

'Come Together' (Hypnotone Brain Machine remix) is a great one either at or, more importantly for the purposes of this thread, before a party.

Since you mentioned Simple Minds Clive, I'll throw in "Theme for Great Cities" in this thread.
