Don't let the scoreline and stats mislead you UA, it wasn't that convincing a win, at least as far as the offense is concerned. Cal dominated the trenches and capitalized on special teams, but the passing game is still sputtering. It was also a costly win as we DLman Rulon Davis broke his foot (out for at least a month if not the season) on the last play of the half and Jahvid Best locking his elbow while stiff-arming the turf (i'm guessing 2-4 weeks out).
What a great week for games, even if UCLA did lose.
I hate the SEC with a passion, which makes its games being so entertaining hard for me to bear. The only SEC team I don't have feelings ranging from dislike to despise is Auburn, which I've always seemed to like for some reason. I think it must be Bo Jackson.
The colors and the fact that they were always opposed to Alabama also helps there, though once you scratch the surface, they are still SEC (and the fact that the academic standards at Auburn are considerably below those at 'Bama is just plain scary).
I feel that way about LSU and, to a lesser extent, Old Miss (to the extent that they reflect the reality of contemporary Oxford, not much of their fan base).
But it's the Florida teams that I really can't stand.
Every single one of them is odious.
I agree about that, the SEC is the reddest of all conferences. Auburn is supposed to be the reddest of the reddest, their top-rated swim team supposedly is a borderline christian cult. I'm partial to LSU and Tennessee though, the former because of the cajun roots and the latter because the volunteer fans I've met were pretty cool. And Kentucky too, I have a warm spot for bourbon and for an ex whose parents went to school there.
Agreed. Also, their fans take the notion of "taking football too seriously" to a whole other level and a lot of good coaches have been run out of town on a rail for going 10-2 or whatever.
I'm just not fond of the south in general, even though I'm grateful for my college education in Williamsburg and I certaily don't hold a grudge or prejudice against individual Southerners. I like their food and Bourbon and some of the music, but the Bible Belt is strangling this country. Plus it's really hot and muggy down there. I want no part of that.
Penn State has 'Bama back on the schedule in a few years. I look forward to that. I also really hate mercenaries like Nick Saban. I'm disappointed he hasn't fallen flat on his face.
Of the SEC teams, I like Georgia because of Uga and Vanderbilt because they've tried to tone down the nonsense a bit and have actually become competitive since they merged their Athletics Department with their Rec Sports department.
I was at the Penn State - Illinois game this weekend, sitting at the very very very top of the North End, so I had a great perspective on the full on White Out.
Our offense is pretty good. Our defense is merely good enough. If only Sean Lee hadn't blown out his knee, they'd be a lot better. Still, holding Illinois' offense to 24 points isn't bad. Juice Williams runs the spread very effectively and Aurelius Benn is probably as good of an athlete as there is anywhere in college football.

Kentucky has become more of a factor in recent years. Same with South Carolina. A bit like Oregon State in the Pac-10 or Indiana and Northwestern in the Big10 - they're probably not going to win the conference anytime soon, but they could upset somebody, so they can't be assumed to be an easy game.
I think Vanderbilt is there just to raise the conference's graduation average.
