there used to be a thread on the old board when people posted magnificent goals scored during the weekened (and midweek too btw).

reckon it's a subject worth reviving.

i'm too lazy to keep anyone updated with news from polish league football, besides it's way too boring and dour even for football geeks like you me to be interested.

so just one goal from the weekend froma league that has finally started after 2 weeks delay. it's been delayed for reasons far too complicated for anyone reasonable to understand. let's just say that polish FA couldn't really decide which teams are in which division.

anyway here it is, a goal scored by a player who was playing his first game in top division.

Nice goal.

I see that the fellow that put it up supports Lech Poznan and "Inter Mediolan", and that is favourite players are Adriano and Boruc.

Does anyone think that Wisla has a chance against Barcelona? Is the media getting worked up?

no Ursus beating Barca is out of question. even Barca without Leo Messi. UEFA cup group stage is the realistic goal. lots of people were actually surprsied how easily Wisla dismantled Beitar after being beaten away. such is the atmosphere here when i went for a little kick-about on thursday most people were pretty sure Wisla bribed the ref or poisoned the Beitar players. corruption scandal might do wonders you see.

i was hoping that Barca game might be moved to Slaski Stadium in Chorzow (capacity ca.45 thousand) so it might be once-in-a-lifetime chance to see Barca on polish (well silesian) soil but they decided against so only 12 thousand will be able to watch Barca in Krakow. with one stand now totally closed for reconstruction.

That's too bad (though probably good for Barca from a competitive point of view).

I wonder if Laporta and the marketing types are going to arrange some kind of visit to a Wojtyla memorial prior to the game. He was a socio, after all.

Are Wisla a generally accepted to be the class of the league? What are you expecting from Lechia?

yeah absolutely. they can go to Franciszkanska street where JP2 stayed before he was JP2.

glad you ask about my team. i hope we can stay up without much trouble. hope we would play in top division come 2011 when Baltic Arena is finished and we move there.

speaking of Baltic Arena and EURO 2012, next week i'm going on a personal inspection to see how our friends in Lviv (Lwov) are doing. they been so kind that they even arranged a friendly between our countries so i have sth to do while there. eastern hospitality. some people say it's not decided yet if it's a home or away tie for us. having in mind Lviv history obviously.

as for our poor poor league: Wisla, Legia and Lech (who score on youtube link) are top favourites. but the latter two already lost points on first day.

I bet the Ukrainians wouldn't have scheduled a competitive match with Poland for Lwov.

Will be interested to hear your report, so far I have managed to avoid further trips to Kyiv.

I didn't realise it was Wisla-Barca in the qualifiers. I was at (what I assume was) the last tie that they played back in 2001.

I was inter-railing round Europe at the time and by sheer coincidence I was in Krakow on the night of the home leg with Barca. I went to the ground hoping to try and get a ticket and was surprised to be able to buy one outside the ground incredibly easily for about £14.

Barca won a great match 4-3 with a hat trick by Rivaldo, and we got chased by riot police firing tear gas. It was brilliant.

well they've already done it

yeah i know it's still not competitive but still. like someone said there are no friendly games between Poland and Russia/Germany. Ukraine is slighlty different now. i've been to Lvov last year and liked it a lot, certain it's gonna be the same now, unless i don't touch any fragile subjects when talking to the hosts.

glad you liked your Krakow exprience Hofzisner.

Just a friendly game, but this free-kick by Bruno Alves for Porto against Lazio got me off my seat.

From 1:14 in this clip, Chris Taylor's superbly-worked free kick to win Saturday's game against Millwall. 3-1 down at home (and a goal down after 13 seconds), Taylor's goal capped a 4-3 win and a bloody lucky comeback.
