OK, now here's an interesting news story from the Kampala Daily Monitor:

QUOTE:
Pepsi, G4 announce mega deal

Crown Beverages, the manufacturers of Pepsi products in Uganda yesterday announced a Shs300m (about 100,000 pounds - AG)cash tonic for Ugandan football. The company will work in partnership with Fans for Premiership Football (G4) to promote the game of football.

Ten lucky winners will have a chance to watch their favourite Premiership teams live. G4 and Pepsi will also hand out 3,000 footballs to all the districts in the country.

The company’s Head of Marketing Aggie Konde said that they are interested in developing football at the grassroots. "We are going to reward ten consumers of our products with a trip to the Premiership. All they have to do is to consume Pepsi or Mirinda and check under the bottle tops," Ms Konde told a press conference at the company headquarters at Kyambogo.

G4 Chairman Denis Mbidde said that the fans group wants to leverage on the passion for Premiership football to promote local football. "We can have a symbiotic relationship whereby we convert the fans passion for Premiership football to the local game," he said. The company’s reward for it’s customers is part of the Shs1b "Chamuka And Win" promotion that has taken the country by storm.

Konde said that the long term objective is to ensure talent develops at the grassroots. The press conference was addressed by Chelsea fans boss and G4 vice chairman Allan Ssekamatte and his Manchester United counterpart Mark Namanya.

G4 members and Pepsi consumers will celebrate the commencement of the Premiership season on Sunday at Ange Noir Discotheque. Gates open at noon.

Got that? Premiership football *leverages* interest in and money for the domestic game.

You can't make this stuff up.
