According to Wikipedia (which may be out of date), they've got Paul Hall - who played in a World Cup.

And Steve Jenkins, who played in div 2 for a while.

TonTon: the keeper (Glyn Thompson) joined at the start of last season, and had a very good year by all accounts.

You're right about the saves though - I can think of at least three good stops. Could have been a lot worse, which I suppose is a worrying thought for Newport fans.

Steve Jenkins is a coach now, though I think he's still in the playing squad. Paul Hall is another one of Holdsworth's pre-season signings - he came on for a bit towards the end, today.

Paul Hall who was at Wrexham last season?

<sorry, only just caught up with this thread>

Going by Newport's results in the now-defunct FAW Premier Cup, they wouldn't have it that easy in the Welsh Prem.

Newport wouldn't have an easy ride by any means. They'd do well to finish above any of the current Top 3 (Llanelli, TNS and Rhyl). Many people seem to have formed their own opinion of the standard of the league on Hearsay and misconceptions.

Newport are a bunch of charmless arrogant tossers, as I found out last year on a cold Tuesday night

Any truth that Merthyr might join in the near future? Surely a better prospect than the British Gas Southern League?

Highlights of the first 2 weeks of the league available here on the S4C Website - http://www.s4c.co.uk/e_watch_level2.shtml?series_id=336666631

There is some talk that Merthyr might switch to the Welsh League, mainly because of the financial basket case that they are at the moment. I haven't heard whether the Trust would support switching leagues (there is more on there current straits here), but they won 4-1 on Monday, so there's life in the old girl yet.

I follow Port Talbot, missed the Merthyr friendly though.

I wouldn't be at all suprised to see them back in the league in the next 3-4 years. With talk of the league being reshaped it would be an ideal opportunity for them.

So, the latest on Barry Town is that despite a stupid admin error (relating to a rearranged fixture) that has cost the club a 3 point deduction, and despite getting knocked out of the Welsh Cup early doors, we're making steady progress up the table.

The outlook is somewhat bleak, however, because of - what a surprise - financial difficulties (I'm guessing, and only guessing, that this concerns unpaid or semi-paid wages) which mean that there's a loophole which allows any member of the BTFC squad to pursue other playing opportunities wherever they like, even before the reopening of the transfer window. Impressively, all squad members have so far elected to stay put.

There are all kind of whip-rounds going on, and on Sat 15th November Joey Jones (Liverpool, Wrexham and Wales legend), who as far as I know has no direct connection to Barry, is doing his bit by coming along to the club house to do his after-dinner speaker bit.

What a guy. Gone up even higher in my estimation than he already was.
