Yes CTT, we passd the towers around 8pm, the Police were just getting there, we assumed they were beginning to close off the motorway and thanked our lucky stars we had got through before they did!
Strange game yesterday. Never let it be said Macca is a manager afraid to drop players. He ditched most of his starting 11 for that which beat Palace midweek. It would have been the same team had Telfer not picked up an injury, but the bottom line was a message to the players that no place is safe. He even dropped Casper the keeper, who has not actually been too bad. No place even on bench for Porky Robinson, hopefully that means he has checked into food rehab! Prutton and Howson on bench was also a shock, but Douglas certainly deserved to stay in the team (and hopefully come off the transfer list!) and Hughs, dispite his low skill level played his heart out on the right wing. Again, lack of width and pace hampered us, we had loads of possesion, but no cutting edge, but the fight was back. Fair play to Bristol, two attempts, two goals and then defended like trojans. We got a break for the leveller, but we deserved it. Macca now needs to hone a first 11 because we are still to have a clean sheet in the league and at times, the defence this season has been a shambles. He also needs to figure out who to play in midfeild. At the moment, I would go for Johnson on left, Howson and Douglas in middle and Snodgrass on right. It was only when Snoddy came on yesterday that we had any width...
Can't believe we finally appear to have a manager who knows what he has to deliver and, thus far, appears to know how to go about it. We appear to now go into games expecting to win. It's ace!
Past experience with Leicester teams, and indeed in general how clubs with 'higher expectations' have done adjusting to this level (c.f. Leeds last season, with their start, and end, to the campaign), would lead me to advise caution on this one, delicatemoth.
It's certainly good they are winning games again, but I'm still concerned that the fans will rapidly get on the teams back the first time an away side take the lead, which will drag the team down. 'We don't belong here' is a massive problem to overcome.
I'm very aware of that Janik, and initially had low expectations for this campaign. The level does seem to be lower than I thought it would be but yes, more testing times will come.
I'm just enjoying feeling like I support a half-decent team for the first time in some years!
QUOTE: You were one one the last people to see the Tinsley Towers for the last time then?
I had to take a M62->A1->M18 detour on Sunday morning as the M1 was still closed.
I thought this must've been mentioned somewhere. Should've guessed that it was in a Leeds thread. Must be sponsored by Look North...
Anyway, I managed to stay up late enough to wander through the cemetery to watch the explosion from Boston Castle. There seemed to be about fifty of us there. We just heard a small bang and, a few seconds later, the towers started collapsing. Then we heard two enormous bangs. Light's faster than sound, isn't it.
After that, all we could see was dust and it started raining, so we had to find out on telly that it hadn't blown up properly...
GO - if you can set up the sponsorship deal, I can cut you in on the profits! This thread is open to all, including people from South Yorkshire! Actually, is there any South Yorkshire clubbs actually in Div Three!?
E10 - no idea whats gone on, but it will be interesting to see what the punishment is? Perhaps they may force Andy Robinson to starve for a month? Or perhaps they will insist that the deal to take Elding away is reveresed and he comes back. Well, after he notches for Crewe on Saturday of course!
I didn't see any myself, but heard a guy ring in the radio Leeds phone in claiming that a handful of Bradford fans had started something in the carpark as they came off the coach and have read the reports of a few bus windows broken ala Mill wall, but nothing much more. As far as I could tell, the majority of Bradford fans were brilliant. Great support during the game, especially the last 10 mins when they could have got something out of what was a very one sided game to be fair. Could have been 4-0 before they scored. However, its a local derby, they hate us with a passion, it would have been a minor miracle for there to have been no trouble at all, so all in all, it was possibly better than expected...
Unless of course I have missed a report with 200 arrests and a mass riot going on around me that I was oblivious to!
OK, so I was so convinced Elding would "Stick it to us" I stuck a whole quid of my own money on Elding to score first and Leeds to win 3-2. Odds 190-1! As it turned out, for 10 mins, it could have happened as we started in sleep mode, but by eck, when we woke up! Honestly, Leeds could and should have scored 10. Crewe did the exact opposite to Bristol defensivly and gave us time and space to rip them apart. We could have scored more normal goals, as it was, we had to settle for 5 blockbusters - seriously, if you can, catch them on Sky Sports news this morning. With a superb performance int he bag and clean sheet in sight, we had a sloppy 90 seconds and somehow conceded 2 goals and big Lubo proved there is really nothing between the ears of a football player by getting sent off for the most stupid shirt pull in front of the ref! but over all, we really put in a shift. Fingers crossed this is a springboard as we have away games at Swindon and Carlise to come now. Also, Porky Robinson came off the bench to set up Beckford with his first cross and then score a beauty of a curler from outside the box and then hit the bar with a lob that had keeper beaten. He is still a fatty, but if he can start to do that kind of thing consistantly we could start to over look that. Perhaps he needs to run the Leeds Half Marathon with me today at 9!!
Is Big Dave still knocking around? Fancy a meet at Swindon if so???
Got back late last night from Swindon, managed to drive all the way back in a state of happy shock. Its fair to say, last weeks win over crewe was superb, but crewe were woeful at the same time, so I was able to keep some kind of perspective on it on the journey down. However, we managed to turn in another superb performance which was even more impressive given we were down to 10 men for 85 or so mins! Sheehan managed to get sent off by making a daft tackle around 60 yards from his area of the field - though from where we were, it didnt look overly bad, it appears it did on the tele so no complaints on that. There were complaints from both sides at the rest of the refs performance - to say he struggled was an understatement, but that apart, what a day. Wearing our new away strip we proceeded to bravly leave two upfront for the first half and pass our way with ease through the Swindon team. Great performances by Delph (A potential Prem player!) and Douglas - its hard to believe we were going to offload him to Southend a few weeks ago - but it was more than those two - it was a great all round perofomance from back to front. The goals were gifts - slack defending for the first, but Beckfords finish was sublime - the second a woeful keeping error but the third was just quality. At times, we played some of the best football I have seen since 1999 when O'leary's babes were first unleashed. It was brave and refreshing - I don't recall enjoying a game of football as much in along long time. It wasnt total football and Swindon played their part, but we were simply too good for them and when they did get through, two brilliant stops from keeper Lucas kept them out at vital times. Next up Carlise away, a real test and it sounds like we may be playing young White at left back - he is 16 and a real prospect - time will tell if dumping him in a match like that will do him any favours mind...
Two other things - firstly, Liverpool fans, in Liverpool shits in the Swindon end - what was all that about!? about 5 of them - I mean, I have been to games as a neutral before, but wouldnt even think of wearing a Leeds shirt???
Second, Stan Collymore, bless his heart - on the way back was talking to a Newcastle fan wanting Wise out and entered into reasoned debate, only to get an earful of Leeds fans on a wind up - topped off the day a treat!!
