Well, it all begins again today. Leeds kick off at High Noon at sunny Scunny. Nice of the Sun to give us more crap to kick off with so we can have some sort of seige mentality again after what has been a very quiet summer by our recent standards...
Seems we are bookies and most peoples favs to walk the league, but the battle weary White troops will remember the hang over of the last playoff defeat all too well and worry that again something will linger. Time will tell I suppose...
That story could be everything i hate about Britain, the media, celebrity, PR and football in one small-distilled ball of shit. What a week for the anthrax poisoner to top himself with such work to be done.
I hope its not Typical Scunthorpe, or they will be up there at end of season - ripped us apart first hlaf, scored against run of play in second and then their keeper threatend to give them the points - we got a bit of luck on both goals, but just shaded it with some great play in second half...
Chester in the cup tomorra then Oldham on Sat, who came back from the dead on Sat in what sounded like game of the day - was anyone there??
I wasn't, but whether we do well against you will depend on what team Sheridan plays. Our defence looked indecisive, Crossley was not at his best, and the midfield lacked a creative spark. Greg Fleming's likely to get a chance in goal tomorrow and if he does well could take Crossley's place on Saturday; with any luck Sheridan will drop Kevin Maher (too similar a player to Mark Allott in midfield) and replace him with Danny Whitaker. It was the Millwall sending-off and the introduction of Danny Whitaker and Lee Hughes that turned it around last weekend.
Had my first look of the season at Carlisle on Saturday. It could be an exciting (if ultimately unfulfilling) year if we carry on defending as shoddily as that, though we did look impressive going forward - an attacking line of Simon Hackney, Danny Graham, Michael Bridges and Scott Dobie looks strong enough to score goals against most sides at this level, but we're weak in numbers at the back, and on the basis of Saturday we need someone to put pressure on our left back to raise his game. The new goalie is no Kieren Westwood either..... :(
Crewe were tidy, if shaky in defence - Joel Grant will cause a few people some problems, though Anthony Elding was as shit as he's been every time I've seen him.
my god, michael bridges is still playing? I feel very sorry for him. He was absolutely fantastic in his one real season for leeds. It was doubly unfortunate because it was his injury more than any other that sent leeds over the edge, coz there would have been a limited need to sign viduka, keane, fowler for 31 million + £180,000 a week in wages.
Well, looking at the negative goal difference after two matches, I have a sinking feeling that this "Escape from Division Three" saga is going to be at least a trilogy.
Honest to god, I can't explain what happened from halftime onwards on Sat. First half was not overly thrilling, but at least we played some good stuff, if at times it was rushed as we started at 100 miles an hour. We created a couple of great chances, including one that Huntingdon will have nightmares over/ Oldham rarely threatened first half, so second it was hopefully a case of nicking the lead and going from there. It never happened, Leeds were utter wank. No fight, just limp sloppy passing and once the 1st goal went it, we put up the white flag. Well done to Oldham for doing what we should have done, i.e. take chances. Macca was fuming at the end of the game - rightly so!
Away to Yeovil for us next, they better put up a better showing than that or its a long drive for nothing - hopefully it will be a kick up the arse and nothing more...

Aye, he's still only 29 I think!
He needs a bit of fitness after most of a season sitting on the bench at Hull (apart form a couple of brief loan spells) but at this level he's got a brain and a touch far better than most of the lower league dross that surrounds him.
His only sustained period of decent football since his last bad injury came in the latter half of our 4th division championship season in 05/06. Hopefully he can recapture that form this season.

If Bridges scores goals for Carlisle it would be a boost for the reputation of defenders in the A-League.
I looked more likely to trouble defences than he did for Sydney last season. And I wasn't even playing.
Edit: Really glad to see this thread. BattyLad's reports last season were a highlight.
