Dear OTF,

I'm going to be in Leeds at the end of this week for work purposes and am considering staying the extra night to remain in Northernland to take in a game somewhere. However, Brentford are at Bury and I can't figure out reliable public transport connections for that game and Leeds are away. So, without looking up every Yorkshire club and how easy it is to get to each one from Leeds, would the kindly visitors to OTF please advise on the possible options, bearing in mind I will need to return to London from Leeds. Ta muchly.

Easy to get to and back from:
Bradford vs Notts Co

Not sure, but closeish:
Huddersfield vs Stockport

Further, but a relatively easy train journey
Sheffield Wednesday vs Burnley

If you're prepared to drop down to Blue Square North level:
Harrogate Town vs Vauxhall Motors

I've been from Leeds to Huddersfield by train. I *think* that there are direct trains.

A quick check suggests that there are approx 4 trains per hour between Leeds and Huddersfield, and it takes roughly 20 minutes. however, I have no idea how far from the station the stadium is having never been since they moved out of Leeds Road

It's a shortish walk. About 10 minutes, if I remember rightly.

How about watching our first ever home game in an athletics stadium. If it's on, that is...

CTT - are there direct trains from Leeds to Huddersfield, if so how long does it take?
I'm not sure I could go back there though. It was the scene of one of my all time favourite Brentford players, Bob Taylor, perform one of the all-time greatest misses, skying over from inside the 6 yard box in the play-off semifinal first leg. Very costly.

I'm still clinging to hopes of finding a way to Bury though. Maybe in hope of exorcising the ghosts of shambolic Bees performance which also cost us promotion.

Ibn, ad hoc's already answered your question (regulraly, takes 20 minutes). You can also see the McAlpine stadium very well from the train-line.

The Metrolink (tram) goes from Manchester Piccadilly to Bury very regularly, and there are very regular trains from Piccadilly to Leeds. I'm not sure how close Gigg Lane is to the Metrolink station, mind.

Let me know if you don't make it as far as Bury and fancy meeting up in the Head of Steam before the match anyway.

Get yourself to Bury. And then write me a match report.

It`s going to be a great season.

Gigg Lane is a ten, fifteen minute walk from the station. And there are four decent pubs to break up the trip, if, you know, you can't handle fifteen minutes without a break.

Ibn, it sounds like you've decided on the Huddersfield game but if you change your mind I'll be at the Bradford game.

Can meet up for a pint beforehand, best to get a train from Leeds to Bradford Forster Square station. PM me if you fancy it.

Thank you to one and all for the advice. Eventually I ended up going...home, earlier than planned. It would otherwise have been a trip to Bradford or Huddersfield, I hadn't decided, probably Bradford given train times and so on. Still, I hope to be making a couple of away journeys later in the season.

No apologies whatsoever to sidjames for the absence of Bees' match report since he has, with his untimely predictions, broken our season irrevocably.
