FWIW, I'm in favour of the Larder, as I like to try new places and it sounds interesting and good.

On the other hand, there's always a chance I may not make it, so the decision of course shouldn't be based on my preference anyway.

(edit: I agree about the beer, to an extent. "Is it ropey, or is it Sam Smiths" should be some kind of anti-marketing phrase.)

Yeah, Sam Smith's beer actually kind of gets me down of an evening, even when I'm in fine company*. My vote shouldn't count for much, because for most of the evening I'll be putting kids to bed and that, but let me put its puny weight behind the Larder.

I can remember when Sam's was some of the best beer around. Only Boddington's has fallen further.

(*As of course I will be, like.)

"The last review is spot on. The pub HAS lost it's charm AND its character, which is such a shame. It has been cloned into yet another common and garden gastro type pub, all too frequent these days, with expensive prices. I used to love to go in there but now prefer some of the other pubs in the area like the Swan. Management must be doing something right as the pub is always packed in the evenings. Too packed for comfort in fact. There are enough pubs in this area to give this one a miss."

Though to be fair, that was December and a number of reviews since say it's ok. I've no preference to either, though I declare something of an interedt in that I'm a fan of Sam Smith's Pure Brewed Lager. Sounds as though the choice at the Larder is going to between Stella (which I hate) and Leffe (which I can't afford)!

I like going to Sam Smith's pubs because it's like living in a sitcom where they have to make up generic brand names to avoid product placement.

Yeah, it's a bit like that.

So, Thursday with me seems not to be that popular. Well, I'll just go to the Queen's Larder on my own. I'm not proud.

By the way, the best thing on that Hot Leg MySpace page is their list of influences where they specify Queen with Paul Rodgers.

Think yourself lucky.

They blanked me over a week ago.

Where this "Southampton Row" of which you speak?

Ah, no one wanted to do Glastonbury avoiders drinks with me either. It's an occupational hazard.

Southampton Row is the big road that goes northeast from Holborn tube up to Russell Square.

Cheers. It's the one I'd assumed from multimap, but you never know.

It's still the Larder. I'll probably go home and get changed and say hello to the kids and stuff before heading out again, so will probably be there about quarter to eight or so.

24 hours too soon. Pished as a pudding, just won a pub quiz with my friend. I'll keep my eyes open but not sure I need another 7 pints.

Good and good. That'll give me time to get changed before catching the train up, too.

By the way - are there any after-pub clubbing plans for tonight? (It simply might affect whether I ride my scooter to the local train station and leave it there overnight, you see.)
