A knife amnesty is where you hand in your knife, and you don't get nicked for having had it, right? So a new name amnesty is where you hand back your new name, and no-one calls you a cunt for having used it.

I promise to abide by the terms of the amnesty.

I've pretty much always been Rogin, in some form or another. I don't like radical name changes either. I preferred mumpo when he was mumpo.

When people change their names, do they think that everyone will know who they are?

I realise it was somewhat arrogant of me to change my name and not think that a lot of people might not know who I am (including my own brother). I don't post enough for a sudden change to be noticeable. But what's done is done. I'm planning to stick with this name.

I had no idea who was who on the old board, and this is a grand tradition that I have carried over to here.

It's not so much that I can't keep track, more that I can't be bothered to.

Edit - that doesn't sound quite right. What I mean is, I'm not someone who thinks "ooh, that's a brilliant name" or whatever. A name's a name, for all that. And that. So if you change your name, the only thing you're doing for me is making you harder to recognise. Given that, I'm not much motivated to keep up.

I've had my fun going by other names. The idea was to distance myself from the G-Man persona. But that didn't work. Everybody recognised me and called me G-Man anyway. So I'm back to G-Man, except this board has that EZBoard flaw of not allowing hyphenated usernames. So it's "G.Man" now, plus a variation here and there.

But I do think namechanges and the sudden (albeit possibly temporary) can have a positive effect. Until this thread, I had no idea that Jimmy Bignutz was Hamann, even though his germanophilia should have given me a clue. Thing is, I very much disliked the Hamann persona, but I rather enjoy the Jimmy Bignutz incarnation.

I've been told off, by G Man amongst others, for all the "Fat Andy/Lardy/Chubby" references.

I think this works, at least for the time being.

Name changes were less annoying on the old board, where the 'From...' tag was a consistent identifier.
