no offence intended to anyone, but if you have a thread about Scottish football, it HAS to include Rangers and Celtic.

If you (Yoss) wish to start an alternative thread, I would think that there will be a lot of posters willing to post there (myself included if I can get Queens Park on Sopcast this season. I think the fuckers are about to charge outrageous amounts)

I agree with HoH (although perhaps his phrasing was a little more forceful than I would have used.)

David Norris was one of your better players? Does that mean that Argyle are really poor, or should we try playing Norris in the centre?

David Norris was instumental in our rise through the leagues. His ability to time a run from midfield and break through a defence was a major factor in our success. If could have scored more goals, well then he'd probably have left us years ago. In fact he'd probably never have left Bolton.

Oh yes, play him in the centre.

He's certainly no Chris Clark.

You make Norris sound like Tommy Miller and Velice Sumulikoski. Shame Magilton signed all three in the space of seven months, when we've only room for one of them in the centre.

The cheapest and shittest of the three, naturally gets the gig, as he's been Magilton's mate for years.

Does Magilton regret spending all that cash on a dud? Sounds like he could be having regrets.

He certainly isn't the player for you that he was for us.

Magilton's problem is that he spent months talking about him publicly while he was still a Plymouth player, and Norris has suddenly got to live up to it, while playing out of position and carrying an injury.

He's talked even more about Gareth McAuley who we eventually signed last month, and will need to be the second coming of Bobby Moore to live up to Magilton's words.

Well Norris was certainly unsettled in the new year. I won't blame Magilton for that though, that cunt Holloway said he could leave in January.... just before he fucked off himself.

Have a look at the EPL prediction thread where everyone, apart from a Newcastle fan having a laugh, has gone for the same top 4.

Is there really that much difference between finishing 5th in England and 3rd in Scotland?

Do Sunderland really have a better chance of being Champions (or playing in the Champions League) than Motherwell?

Aren't there more teams in the EPL simply content to avoid relegation whereas in the SPL a European place is a reasonably achievable goal for most of the league? If a club with Motherwell's lack of resources can finish third, there is no reason why St Mirren or Falkirk can't do the same if they get their act together.

I wish all you cunts talking about English football would get the fuck off this thread, why does it always come back to England!!

Yoss - I am indeed a cunt from Glasgow and I support one of the big Glasgow cunts however this cuntishness I seem to possess doesn't surely preclude me from offering an ill informed opinion on the league in which my chosen cunts play surely?

Melbourne - There is a lot of truth in what you say and the same could be applied to most European leagues. And I agree that half the Premier League are unlikely to have the resources to win it but could well challenge for a Uefa place. However Aberdeen, Hibs and Hearts are city teams, potentially big supports and come from cities that are extremely well off financially. Why they can't compete regularly for at least a top 2 position is beyond me.

Someone mentioned the Hibs team of a few years ago and how it was broken up. The Old Firm didn't lead to them having 3 managers in 2 years, one of whom managed to fall out with 2 of their best players, that was all Hibs doing. And the least said about Hearts current predicament the better, and you can't blame anyone but Hearts themselves for it.
Aberdeen though, I'm at a loss as to why they can't compete.

Morning all, up the Doonhamers. Or possibly not, although Annan's promotion is great as there's another D&G team to support.

Can anyone confirm what my favorite ranting waif, Crunchie McAllister is up to at the moment? I think he still scouts for Chelsea in Scotland, but with a coaching job as well?

Indeed, the Scottish situation is mathematically more competitive than the state of play in Portugal, Turkey or Greece (essentially 3 possible winners of a much larger league) and equal to that in Holland, Belgium, Spain and Italy. Only France and Germany have more than a quarter of their clubs with a serious shot at a the ultimate prize and France is a league that has been won by the same club for seven seasons in a row.

When I first started paying attention to European football in the 70s, the Portuguese oligopoly was seen as evidence of their arrested development and a Mickey Mouse league. Yet a similar situation has now become the norm in the significant majority of European leagues, largely due to the massive influence of Champions League cash and individual televison contracts in those countries that allow them.

I'd say the Bundesliga has very few clubs with a serious shot at the ultimate prize. 2 or 3 perhaps?

It changes with the Bundesliga, though. It's always Bayern plus one or two serious challengers from a group of eight or so clubs whose fortunes rise and fall in cycles.

You haven't got the situation where all but three or four clubs know that they can never ever win the league again.
