Vaughan out for fuck all again. If he wasn't captain, he would have been dropped about one Test ago (on current dropping form).

He is seriously in decline in everything except his tactics. And his selectorial skills have to be question with Pattinson. Unknown element yes, but blimey!

South Africa try to claim a catch that clearly wasn't off Strauss there.

It won't be too long before we see Mr Pattinson bowling, I'd wager.

I'd fine AB for that, or suspend him for a couple of games. If you can get fined for complaining about a decision, and suspended for slow over rates, then surely claiming a catch falsely is a much bigger sin?

Disgusting.

Agreed (with Barndoorio). I hope he didn't learn that trick at Carrickfergus CC.

I note we've also kept our fine tradition of losing a wicket just before the interval. I'm relying on Bell or Pietersen to uphold the tradition of losing one straight after the interval as well.

KP proves me right - goes 20/20 for a few overs and that's all she wrote for our first innings unless Bell summons the spirit of Boycott and grind his way to century in the next four sessions at a run every over.

I have to say how pleased I am that the selectors took the wise choice to keep some depth in our batting line-up given that we are playing on a damp Headingley pitch, and we don't have an out of form Ambrose and an out of form Flintoff at 6 and 7, before a very long and fragile tail.

Zhaark's done Bell of an inside edge.

Is it really a very long tail? You've a competent batsman next in Broad. The problem's 6-8, not 9-11.

We're playing with 3 number 11s and 3 number 8s, which isn't great for a tail.

QUOTE:
Steyn to Flintoff, OUT, wide and loose, and Flintoff has a flat-footed swipe that flies through to Boucher! An anticlimactic end - it wasn't the best ball that Freddie's faced all day, and he knows it. That had runs all over it, but his feet didn't respond to the invitation

Jesus, this innings is up there with the heyday of the mid-90s for stupid cricketing shots and strange team picks.

I half expect to see Craig White taking guard next.

Decent all-rounder, Chalky. Quickest bowler I've seen with no run up.

Fraser on the BBC earlier claimed that Kallis used to bowl at 145 kph while a youngster at Middlesex. Really?

Broad gone. It's like the Charge of the Light Brigade out there.

But the batting might of Anderson and Panesar will see us through!
