Hang on a mo' ... if you invert it, it's the same - the wide bit of the diagonal white cross is still uppermost. (?)
Yeah, its confusing. What you're doing when you invert it is turning it over, rather than turning it around. You have to think in 3D instead of 2D. The wide white diagonal at the upper left is replaced by the narrow diagonal at bottom left. It's an extraordinarily clever solution to a tricky design problem.
Looking at a flag site there are even more like them. Luxembourg, exactly the same as Netherlands with a slightly lighter shade of blue.
Bosnia, Slovenia, Croatia, Paraguay, Slovakia as well as the original, Netherlands, Russia and Serbia, all have three horizontal stripes in red white and blue.
Red white and blue must be the most popular colour combination by far.
USA, UK, France, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Chile, I could go on
Red white and blue must be the most popular colour combination by far.
It is, although if you look at the all red/green/yellow combos of many African and Caribbean countries they run a respectable second, especially if you kick in the few odd ones from elsewhere.
I thought the Serbian flag had the national Coat of Arms on it? (While Srpska does without.)
The Bosnia flag is interesting in a defiantly asymmetrical way. The divided stars at top and bottom (an infinity of nations) the triangle (Bosniaks, Croats, Serbs — also a stylised map of the country.) Kinda neat. especially the stars.
Yes, though quite a few modern flags have gone for the Wide-Screen format. I think it's emphasised because the blue at the right looks like an optional tear-off section (possibly not a good idea for a Balkan nation.)
