She's going back on Thursday for a follow up with her internist.
Yes, you read that correctly. I wonder if I should schedule an appointment with her shrink to help her get over the trauma of being poked and prodded so much.
Question for Jason V: Don't you wait until you get the money before you ship the item(s)? I'm not shipping the Ric anywhere until the money is safely in my or eBay's account.
My friends' rabbit was attacked in the garden. They never saw what it was, and the rabbit was no help, insisting it walked into a door.
The vet said "We can save your rabbit's life, but it will cost ya. And by the way its eyes are so badly injured we'll have to remove them".
So my friends, under enormous pressure from their kids, stumped up for the operation in the hope that, best case, they'd have an overdraft and a blind rabbit.
Snowy never regained consciousness.
I could tell a similar, albeit different, story about my Audi - a crazed tale of emotional attachment versus mechanical inevitability.
Good luck, FF, you softy. I hope your kitty gets better soon and doesn't bankrupt you in the process.
Thanks HORN. I know that some people can't understand why I would spend that kind of money on a cat, but she's not just any cat; she's my cat and I've grown very fond of her. Last week when I didn't know if she was going to make it, I had a really difficult time of it. I couldn't concentrate on work and I couldn't sleep.
The thing is, and I feel very strongly about this, if you can't afford to take care of an animal, you shouldn't keep one. It's part of the responsibility you accept when you become a pet owner. It's not unlike having children in a lot of ways (except that you can euthanise animals if they get so sick that they won't recover. I think it's illegal to do that to children.)
But I can accept that some people are going to disagree with me on this.
I have both my kitties covered for around £20 a month with PetPlan. Mind you, they're both only around 4 years old - Older cats cost a lot more to insure.
CTT - I signed up my younger cat, but the premiums were very expensive for the older one. My younger one is only four also. I would have paid the higher premium for Gizzie, but there is a one month waiting period before it becomes effective. She didn't have a month to wait.
JV - Yes, I have PayPal. It does make internet shopping much easier.
I've also found that pet insurance tends to cover very little - usually, it'll cover getting hit by a car or something like that, but with diseases, many pet insurance plans actually won't help much. Or they cover the visit fee and none of the operation costs, which are what really drive up the cost.
When we had ear surgery done on one of our cats (her ear kept balooning up like a golf ball) it ended up costing near $1000. Of course, when my wife had a surgical procedure done last year, even with insurance, it cost nearly $1,500.
So, you know, doctors of all stripes are expensive. And I agree with FF - if you aren't going to pay, don't play.
nice Bass FF. I couldn't possible justify spending that much on another guitar though..despite the Ric being my dream Bass..nearly bought one last summer for £800 but went for paying off the mortgage instead
if that was in the UK I'd expect it to go for anywhere between £850 and £1000..and I'd imagine they're cheaper over there
the bizarre thing is the old copies of Rics can fetch £500..there's quite a thriving market for the 70s copies..partly flamed by Ric getting ebay to pull most auctions
whatever your man did...he's a fool :-)
PS..might be worth you adding a bit of text to explain that you're new to Ebay and reassure of your honesty..invite emails from bidders for more details..I don't think I'd bid that sort of cash myself if the seller had no feedback history at all..not without having exchanged a few emails to convince myself the seller was genuine..and if it doesn't sell this time maybe a lower starting price next time with a reserve price..and more details
good luck

Thanks. I just thought of doing something like that this afternoon after reading JV's post. I have had private messages and emails from a couple of potential buyers, but one is in Norway and the other in London. He couldn't convince me that it would cost less than $100 to ship it to the UK. If anyone has proof that it can safely be done at that price, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I'll have to go with the $400 quote from UPS and DHL if you want it sent to another country. He found one locally, so that was that.
I'm not worried that I will sell it, even if I have to list it again later. I know that the economy is very bad right now and it's not the best time to be selling anything. The one good thing about this bass is that it will hold its value, and this one was made in 2006, which is the first year the vintage tone selector was included as a standard item--formerly it was an add on. I was very lucky when I got it that the store just happened to have got one in the day before and no one had bought it yet. Otherwise, there is a one to two year wait for new ones from the factory. As you probably already know.
FF, sorry if this is just too bloody obvious, but a lot of potential buyers are going to be put off by the fact that this is the time you've used eBay and it's such an expensive item.
You might be better off withdrawing the guitar for a while, buying and selling a few trinkets so that you amass a bit of feedback, and then putting it up for sale again.
I suspect this would add quite a lot to the final price you get.
Or ask a friend with an account to list it for you, I've done that for a couple of friends/family when they've not had things set up on ebay and wanted to sell old stuff/unwanted gifts as a one off.
